Question about content/user management...

Hey there,
Here's what I need. A script or something that will do the following:

-Allow users to log in and have their own "page", on which they have their own image gallery, calender, blog-like something, and other admin specified sections.
-Everyone, even guests to the website, can view all the users pages without logging in or registering or anything.

While I have been doing websites for 5 years now, I have never really 'delved deep' into internet programming/coding, because I have always focused on the visual(design) aspect more. Someone recently asked me to do such a site as I just described, and I am not really sure where to begin. If someone could let me know of a script(commercial or free, though free would be better ), that would be great, but any help as to what to use to accomplish this would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you want something like PHP nuke (or equivalent)... if you're not really experienced in PHP that kind of project could take quite a while to develop. I'm sure someone on here can provide you with some specific links, but I don't have the time right now to pull any up for you. Sorry!

Yes i've thought of PHP Nuke as a possibility, but the problem is, I wasn't sure if that would offer individual pages for each user. For example, a user has to be able to log in, then edit "their page" on the site. I was wondering if their was some script out there that already has this built in at least to some extent.

As far as my experience with PHP, I have used it a fair amount in the past, just never written anything in it from scratch. As far as setting up pre-built scripts though, that should'nt be a problem at all.

Any other help would be great...

I would go with Drupal, it's much better than PHP-nuke, IMO. You can change users access for creating content (such as an blog).

Just check it out.

That looks pretty cool, but I don't know if it is exactly what I am looking for(though its the closest yet!) .

I think what I am going to do is just learn PHP and MySQL and create this myself. I have a fair amount of a background in programming(C++, and C++ derivatives), so I think I *may* be able to accomplish this. I will let you all know how this turns out.

Thats a good idea aswell, as I am doing the exact same thing right now too.

I've used some various tutorials I found at www.pixel2life.com, and www.hotscripts.com
