where'd i go wrong? no file gets written. have tried "rb" and other string modes and have tried fputs. file ref' is ok as far as i can tell.

fogot to mention - file does not yet exist

You can't fwrite to an external file. "../test.xml" won't work, you have to use the full path of the file. I dont know what it would be for you, if you run Apache its "C/.../htdocs/text.xml" otherwise you should contact your DNS to get the directory.
