Online tuturials I'm not really sure about, but if you're ok with buying a book I'd recommend this one as a starting point:

"Sams" Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL and Apache All in One
ISBN: 0672327252

This one helped me get into PHP really quickly, it's also shows you how to use MySQL databases.

After teaching myself the basics from this book I bought an advanced book which I use just for reference, as I'm still only a beginner myself.

Lol thats no problem. IMO, the W3 tutorials are perfect for some people, and could be absolutely horrible for others. I don't know about some of the others, but their PHP tutorial is one which shows the true basics, which for me is great, because I like to learn stuff myself, through trial and error.
