Hi people..

I am into web designing from a long time and am really amazed at the functionality that PHP applications have provided to websites .(For instance take this message board as a great example . I think it is simply superb)

I have been using ready made scripts for form processing, and scripts like PHPBB etc. in my site but I find it pretty difficult to edit anything in them since I have practically no knowledge of PHP.

Could someone please suggest some good book or an online resource from where I could get an insight into Php from the beginners level.

I would also like you to discuss the various uses that PHP could add to a site.

I found the Oreilly "PHP and mySQL" book (can't remember the full title) to be a useful starter. It works through the setup of an online wine merchant, but obviously the code can be applied anywhere. It's good for beginners to have a book sitting on the desk next to you as a reference, although of course there are many online tutorials that can get you started as well.
