I am still trying to slowly get my foot in the door with web development. I just finished a class in PHP which helped me get an overall grasp of how things work. Anyway, one of my co-workers wants me to make a site for him. He wants a blog, but wants it to be at his own domain name and to be a custom design. My question is, should I just try to work out something with PHP and MySql to create a basic blog system, or is there a good script out there that I should just customize? I have heard of things like wordpress, but am not sure if it is what I need. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Well if your up to the challenge and are willing to spend the time, i say go ahead and make it yourself. Besides, it will be a great learning experience . However if you want to get it done fast i suggest just look for a nice blog script and edit it

going to agree with sweetdesignz. Wordpress is an awesome system to use, easy to use, and easy to customize with tons of additional features from the user base.

Thanks guys, I thought about wordpress, but just havent heard much about it. I will have to give it a try. I'm not sure my PHP skills are up to par when it comes to developing my own, but it would definitley give me practice and a learning opportunity. But I like easy...I will look into wordpress. Any other suggestions? Are there any simple blog scripts that are easy to customize?

That is probably the simiplist one I've tried. Wordpress that is. you can check out wordpress with out downloading it at www.wordpress.com it's a hosted blog, it's limited but it'll give you a feel for it before you try it yourself. wordpress.org is the main site where you can download the script, themes and plugins to extend functionality.
