I want to know is there anything you do to track your website visitors.
Do you place some programming script on your web to work on that?

I'm wonderng because I have a few place where I submitted my website link, I am sure that that you submitted to a lot of place on the web. So how you define that it is resulting traffic to your web?

i have a service i use that shows you all the pages a user has seen in his visit to you're site. So you can track like a scenario of each visitor ... to see what he was interested in and what was his "jurney" through you're website ....
But it's not in english ... they said they will soon make an english version
the traker is http://www.webcounter.ro

Google Analytics is the one. Why make your own stats stuff when its already available for you.

I would not recommend an external script such as google as your relying on them having the following:
- Good logging tools - Sometimes they may not give you very much good information. Which would suck.
- Quick Servers - If there slow...Your site looks slow.
- True logging - They may fake logs to encourage you to stick with them.
- Links backs - Even if there is no link, people may know your using it. A on site one can be hidden with ease.

I would recommend using a built in php one I'm currently working on one for this very purpose

Quite right, but chrishirst, please use more detail
With cPanel usually there are quite detailed logs of your visitors. If your using cPanel it should be under 'FTP/Web Stats'.

Awstats is pretty nice. It will tell you where the users are coming from. For example, I have 2 scripts up on hotscripts.com and I can see than about 80% of my traffic is coming from that website. Awstats is built in to cpanel accounts.

I used to use statcounter.com but my traffic got too high and they demanded payment or they would close my account. Google analytics is what I use now, and if I outgrow their service I guess I'm going to end up paying for something. :\

Log analysis is the most accurate way to measure traffic. I recommend awstats. Google Analytics is pretty good if you just want general numbers and don't care about every detail.

I personally log everything myself for sites I care about and combine that with external stuff...Why? Because I can track logged-in users whereas those other programs simply can't as their scripts run on their server which can't share session data. Just log everything you want to a database and write a script to analyze it. It will likely not be as cool or ajaxified as those external scripts, but for me it's useful to see where my users are going.
