Hello, All. My name is CJ Krueger, and I have a little bit of an extremely large problem - RiotArt.com

RiotArt will eventually be a site that will showcase user art to the world. Its main focus will be to allow users to submit their art, (Images, Text, Movies, Music,) for review and rating by other users, and the submit that art to site-wide contests.

The reason I, (And Blimey Studios, my collaborative local art group,) have decided to create RiotArt is because there is a large and growing community of underground, alternative and independant artists that are getting no recognition. The RiotArt project, which already has contacts and deals with local and national galleries and radio stations, would help to bring these talented artists to the mainstream.

Here's the problem, I don't know a thing about coding, only art. All thats at the website right now is a simple placeholder, until the code gets done.

Ahem, okay. Whats coming is probably enough to make most normal people turn their heads and sniff impatiently, but hear me out: We're looking for somebody, (or manybodies,) to help with coding the site to the point where we can simply skin it and go. The idea behind the site is extremely ambitious, and will not be easy. Below I'm including a list of the features the code would have to include, just in case any of you are crazy enough to help with one or two parts of the site. Anyway, here it goes:

-User Login, Control Panel system
-Art submission, gallery, rating and review system (multiple file types)
-Contest system, talk to me for details
-Forum (with integrated Login and Password from the main site)
-Shoutbox
-Admin system, where multiple admins can add "Feature Stories" and
"Feature artists" that will be dumped to an archive when the next story is added.
-Random Artist/Art for front page

This was the idea behind the site I was opening (anarkypen.com and yes I know anarchy is mispelled).
But plans feel behind becuase I aswell was well... The only staff member and bla bla bla. Not to mention the high competition of deviantart (even though you have to be a favorite user inorder for anyone to notice you there).

But yea anyway I am rambling. So yea I would love to be a helping hand but I am currently fighting another project. So if we could keep in touch and then I could show you the code I already have... that would rock!

So please PM and we can work out the details.


Oh P.S you can have a quick gander at my construction page and that kinda give a baby sample of my imaging skillz and also some of my php skills to becuase the date you see on that picture auto updates itself in php.

wipeout, it sorta has. I'm similar to you too, but if you can offer someone something quite complex, and offering your time, you expect something in return, unless they are friends or family (exception of my father)

I supose your right. I guess in my case I offered for free becuase I was already doing the same thing with the same problems. Plus I already have code written. But I donno I am doing the Custom Angel Eyes site out of the goodness of my heart and only asking for a tiny banner.

But mabey this is a bit off topic.

I do work for free to people, but he is talking about a massive multi day job that will take hours of work. I charge for stuff like that. Keep in mind, I am older and I do web design for profession and I have to charge some people or else I will not be able to live. I have to eat. You Know?

Banner isn't realy a fee the way I am doing it becuase I am not talking like a 468x58 or whatever header....
I am talking like a 81x31 button kinda thing....
And all its going to say basicly is that "this page was created and designed by wipeout"....
Now does that really count?
Becuase even if its my page I still have that one the botom to tell people not to steal...
So I dont realy consider that a fee realy...

With all the current CMS systems available today, there really isn't a need to hire someone to build a completely new one. With a little effort, most systems today can be tailored for any range of tastes or needs. No need to reinvent nor is there a need to pay for something when you can most likely get it for free.

However, it's all a matter of personal preference or need. People do what they get paid to do and people pay others to do what they do best. In either case, you'll get what you want.

I kinda agree with Svelte here. not to underestimate the talent of coders, and what they can customize for a customer. (I'm not a coder myself). but it seems like the request here is a content management system, and the reason I posted is because I'm not a coder, and I managed to setup a site that's customized enough to reflect me, and it had all the content I needed.

having said that, I would suggest you take a look at http://www.postnuke.com and/or http://phpnuke.org , and for your art, you can easily embed it with Gallery 2. http://gallery.menalto.com . There is even a built in integration mechanism to include the gallery within them.
Between the CMS system and the Gallery, you'll be able to find what you asked for in your initial post, and much more...

So now, all you need is a little bit of Linux, MySQL knowledge, and some understanding of PHP/CSS to be able to customize it. most of the customization, however, usually happens within modules, and blocks and what not, so in general, you'll end up customizing your site from your control panel.
