I've got a humor site Content Management Script.. it's fully functional, advanced in some areas, lacking in others... but I was thinking of making it a public domain (freeware) project, provided I have enough interest and support. If so I will continue to develop it to turn it into a great CMS

reply in this thread to let me know what you think and if you want me to go open source with it.

I know a few people here have checked it out.. least you could do is leave a comment or 2 If it's crap, say so.. and I'll just trash the idea.. hehehe

It's loaded with features

Built in mailing list manager...
Built in TAF form with co-registration options...
Built in link trade script...
Built in rating system...
support for jokes, pictures and fun pages (any html page, flash or whatever)
Built in search function, to search through all the content
Fully working adminstration interface...

This script has been previously sold for $99.. I can leave it that way or I can make it free.. but it's not gonna be free if people don't speak up I'm willing to update it, if there is a sign of support for this script. I want people to get involved with the development, tell me what it needs, what it doesn't, what's broken, what's working... Everyone runs into different problems...

It does look very nice. How easy is it to make a new skin for it, or to customize it?

I recommend releasing it for free...but then again, I'm a huge fan of Open Source...I recommend going Open Source with it...that way people can modify/improve it.

Nothing bad can come from releasing it. As WaHoOoO said, the open source community will help you improve it

Just ensure you choose the right license to release it under

Anyone know any other places that I can look for support on this project? The only reason I'm looking for supporters first is because it is a pretty complex script already, and I don't want to just make it free and not get any feedback, questions and suggestions for it...

I planned to start a humor site back then but cancelled the whole project because of the lack of decent (and not overloaded) CMS scripts for this kind of sites... the only script I liked was very hard to personalize since it required me to edit over 30 files.

I'm a big fan of open source as well and I'd consider your script for sure if it is easier to edit than the one I mentioned
maybe you could open a project at sourceforge and just ask for main supporters/developers on the project main page itself?

Like it.

Unfortunatley I don't really have a use for it.

I'll ask around my mates and see if anyone else could use it..

I was just looking over my code.. actually for the first time since I left it as a finished project.. (at least for the time being).. It's a little sloppy for total customization, but basic customization is easy... I'm tinkering with the code right now though and implementing a few new ways of doing things which will improve customization ..

Since I'm not really a designer, if anyone wants to jump aboard and design something for the default view, or even work on default skins, let me know. Let's get this project rolling

WebWishMaster ,

I think it would be a good idea to release it for free, then charge for the future updates and improments. That might help generate interest and this will give the free users a reason to pay money for it down the road. Overall it's a good script for that type of management.
