I am using paypal standard with IPN. I am offering a service with my website that involves a user to pay a single amount in order to get access to the information. I need to know when a user has payed so that i can enter there user name and password into my database so they can access the information. I am using the encryption button so i dont know if i can pass certian information to paypal for them to return to me to identify the user paying so that i can enter the user name and password that the user supplies me before being directed to paypal.

Does your site already have a working member login script ?

You should use the IPN for that, as I understand their service.

The url you define for the IPN is called from the paypal server when a user makes a payment.
This url will receive some informations about that payment, and it's up to you then to match those with your member, and update his record

Thanks for the help, but i figured it out already. I am using IPN, and i noticed that you can pass custom variables to paypal that the user has now knowledge about and will be returned to me at my IPN script which would allow me to identify them and grant them access by adding their username and password into the database.
