Yeah, I can just see it now.........

jamestl2: What type of fluffy bunnies out there does everyone like?

serandfae: There's many types of fluffy bunnies I like: Bugs Bunny, the Easter Bunny, and the little bunnies that you can purchase from the pet stores.

joder: You like the Easter Bunny? Why is that?

serandfae: He brings Easter eggs and Easter Baskets to my family during the Holiday's.

cbwm: Tim, you do realize that the Easter Bunny really has nothing to do with Easter, right?

serandfae: I know, but James asked me what types of fluffy bunnies I like. Although it is interesting you should mention that, because Easter has been commercialized in recent times.

cbwm:
Easter is really about how Jesus was resurrected after he died for our sins on the cross.

fastreplies: cbwm, I don't need to hear about how Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I'd like to know why you think that just because religious fanatics don't like the way I celebrate Easter, I have to change the way I do, just for them.

serandfae: It is interesting you bring that up, because.......

(the debate goes onward from there )

Joder would then post a pic of Dick Cheney dressed like Elmer Fudd, looking down at a dead body, with the caption:
"I was aiming for that wascally wabbit, honest!"

Only in America, land of the free, home of the brave champions of the Second Amendment! God bless her!

You should have seen how fast ol' Peter Rabbit ran to escape my rat terrier. You've got to be fast to outrun lil' Benny, he's bred to catch small game. And he thought mean old Mr. McGregor was bad....

Most likely I would say: Why rabbits and what rabbits had to do with Christ?
Do I have to celebrate Biblical events just to please religious fanatics?

No, no, this is the world according to America thread. You must extoll our Second Amendment rights. You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead fingers....I can assure you that anyone that breaks into my house won't leave. Now of course the NRA promotes gun responsibility, so search me how Cheney could weasel out for "missing".

That wabbit, he's too quick for me, sorry pal....

"NRA 4ever". "Just one of the radical right wing messages inserted into every Simpsons episode by creator Matt Groening"...

Sorry couldn't resist that. I love the way the Simpsons mock a lot of right wing politicians and beliefs sometimes.

Naturally, I am obligated to answer:Rabbits have NOTHING to do with Christ and everything to do with Pagans and fertility rituals, just as the Christmas Tree and the winter solstice(Dec 25th) have nothing to do with the birth of Christ. So.... celebrating them would not be celebrating biblical events and therefore would in no way please the religious fanatics. By the way, Merry Christmas Eve everyone.

Yet another thing we can agree on, even if you were just joking.

I think that was actually a hypothetic conversation and DOESN'T need to be acted out! Doing so will only bring up more debate and further negative feelings.

You have to admit, though, that it would follow about along those lines. In this case cbwm is correct, bunnies, easter eggs, Christmas trees, Yule logs, would not be used by many conservative Christians, because they are of pagan origin. Witnesses not only don't use them but don't celebrate any holidays or birthdays whatsoever, not even Christmas.

A little trivia--the twelve days of Christmas, put in place by the early Catholic Church to try to take the place of the feast of Lupercalia, are the days between Christmas Day and the day of the Three Kings, when they said they arrived in Bethlehem. Of course we don't know the exact date of Jesus' birth, but if I remember correctly, by looking at the Hebrew calendar the month would have been March.

But to stay on topic--America rocks! Annoy the far left and the far right and think for yourself! Woo hoo!

I'll be honest, I wasn't actually sure if you celebrated it or not, but for the hypothetical debate's's sake, I assumed you did.

Don't worry about it guys, I'll merge the two topics to keep it on track .

Holiday's according to America:

New Years Day: Time to get drunk

Valentines Day: Time to buy gifts for my sweetheart

St. Patricks Day: More time to get drunk

Easter: Bunnies and candy and eggs! Oh Boy

Halloween: More candy, Yes!

Thanksgiving: Time to stuff myself with food and crack open a cold one during the game

Christmas: Time to spend lots of money on tons of gifts

New Year's Eve: Even more Time to get drunk

Old Constantine was a clever chap. What better way to convert millions of pagans, than to take their holidays, integrate them into yours and call them Christian. Still goes on today. Apparently, some group of Austrians has been working with some success towards replacing the easter bunny with some marsupial. It doesn't get much better than that.

Whym, wasn't trying to act out the conversation, and I don't think Fast replies was either. Often my dry sense of humor doesn't come across in a post, since you cant really see the grin on my face as I type it (See the post on Self Taught vs Formally Educated). That said, I think we agree that debate is born of free speech, and often leads to negative feelings. In that spirit, I would like volunter to be the champion of negative feelings.

And now, since Tim has brought us back to the topic of this thread, I have some humorous history to contribute. I apologize in advance if any of you have seen this already (unlikely IMO).

A Condensed Version of History

For those who slept through World History 101...... here is a condensed version.
Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were:
1. The invention of beer, and
2. The invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer, and the beer to the man.

These facts formed the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:
1. Liberals
2. Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed. Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BB Q at
night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy and group hugs, the evolution of the Hollywood actor, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide all the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.

Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing. And here ends today's lesson in world history.......

Too bad it wasn't actual history.

Can't you ever look at a subject without a preconception of everyone is an extremist (extreme far right or left) and that everything bad was liberals and everything good was conservatives?

Ah, the joy of being a moderate--I can laugh at jokes like this and the ones the liberals put out poking fun at conservatives. I even laugh at the ones both camps hurl at me, calling me a fence sitter(the politest of the names, which sounds like it would really hurt).

Well, I'm not going to assume James really thinks Americans see every other nation as Communist, and that there be dragons to the south of us. I thought my post had a nice balance for the original post which started this thread. I found both funny.
