Here's the time table I would predict
  1. Feb 18, 2008 - Gun production halted world wide.
  2. Feb 19, 2008 - Street price of a Glock 9 triples.
  3. Feb 20, 2008 - Pawn shops & banks nationwide reporting a lack of cash.
  4. Feb 21, 2008 - Inner city emergency rooms unable to keep up with influx of crack overdoses. Some 18,000 new recording labels open.
  5. Feb 22, 2008 - Kanye West sells last illegally possessed gun in America for 2 hours studio time.
Okay, that's not 100 % accurate. Kanye is too bougie to probably own illegal firearms. Otherwise, the point is largely accurate, and conveniently ignored. If guns stop being produced, or there's real control by other means, and they actually become harder for criminals to acquire, the black market price of a gun will sky rocket.

People who lack decision making skills become criminals. Usually people who can't plan for the past. Turning in your gun today for a hit of rock today may not make sense to most of us, because we imagine if we were criminals, we might need the gun next week. That's why we all have jobs - we can understand and plan for the concept of next week. That's what separates us from most criminals.

We have to be very careful when we come to weapons. The constitution states that we have the right to " bear arms" We got sold real quick on that, didn't we? Did anybody ever consider that everything in life is interpreted twice; first figuratively and then literally! Case in point, (BEAR ARMS) FIGURATIVE, (BARE ARMS) LITERAL!

Now that’s the first sensible things that I have ever head you say.

Really, this gets to the heart of what divides the Republican and Democrat party, how much government do you think there should be. The Democrats believe that people are to stupid and dangerous to govern themselves in a country that is supposed to be governed by the people.

This is my line of thinking.
-The more regulations you have –
-The more power you have over someone-
-That someone becomes less free-

Somewhere, somehow we are going to have to start holding people responsible for their choices, not the tools they use to do it. Cigarette companies did not kill my grandmother (who died 3 years ago due to long cancer) the choices she made led to her death. And the same goes for a close friend of mine in grade school who was shot in his house by a guy who was high and trying to rob him; the gun companies (or the gun for that matter) did not make the choice to kill.

I thought both parties (democrats and republicans), felt that way.

That's only if it's not a woman's right to choose but it's okay if you want to force everyone to listen to your prayers.

EDIT: That was in response to the quote Jamestl2 was responding to

Republicans try to govern everyone just as much as the Democrats. You just agree with how the Republicans are doing it.

What killed your grandmother was cigarettes. They were manufactured by a company that knew they were bad for peoples health and they were manufactured for the purpose of people smoking them.

I'm all for reasonable regulations and regulations not allowing people to smoke in public places are good. If people want to smoke other places and know the risks they should have much much higher insurance rates and I shouldn't have to help pay for their choices as I do now.

I guess you would also be in favor of not regulating what companies dump into the water system? How about regulating against a company using asbestos during construction of a building? There are a lot of good regulations that wouldn't be observed by companies out to make a buck if they weren't there.

Democrats and Republicans were both up in arms about China not having regulations during the recent lead in toys, poison in animal food and unregulated beef episodes. The US Olympic team is taking its own beef to China because of it.

That's right. The Republicans think there should be so much government they listen to every phone call you make (just this weekend, Shrub was trying to buy AT&T lawsuit immunity), every book you take out of the library (PATRIOT ACT), every ATM transaction, and so on. The Democrats think there shouldn't be so much government that The People loose their privacy and freedom. The Republicans think it's ok for government to take these things away as long as they promise security in exchange for freedom. Ironically, though, they want guns because government might take freedom away from them? IT ALREADY HAS!

Only if everyone in that building makes less than $40,000 a year.
