Freedom is not free, but the U.S. Marine Corps will pay most of your share

I just love stories like this one. When I read the idiocy, I think to myself we really should adopt a mandatory service policy like Switzerland and Israel. 12-18 months of mandatory service for every able bodied U.S. Citizen once they hit age 18, and the same for every naturalized citizen, starting within a year of naturalization. We did this during the civil war and freed the slaves. It is my understanding that in Israel, each citizen soldier retains, and is responsible for his automatic weapon after his term of service.

Its a solution that solves the recruitment, gun control, and immigration complaints all in one swoop. Obviously most countries on the planet lack the sack to deal with cockroach infestations as they crop up. From that article:

"Hezbollah did not threaten immediate revenge. But its al-Manar television, which broke into Quranic verses after the announcement, broadcast another statement from the Shiite Muslim militant group, saying a funeral will be held on Thursday.
It urged supporters to turn out in its stronghold in south Beirut to "carry on our shoulders a leader we were proud with his leadership and a martyr we're honored by his martyrdom."

Sounds like an opportunity for possibly the most efficient use of a smart bomb ever.

So you're saying "freedom" should be maintained through involuntary servitude?

Rove would be proud. Orwell, less so.

Not to mention our military service does a lot of things other than protect our country. People would be forcibly signing their life away at the mercy of the whims of our government.

I know I am going to get jumped for what I am about to say but o well…

After I heard about this story my initial thought was, “I wish a terrorist group would hold that “liberal recruiting school” otherwise known as Berkeley, hostage with no military help for a few days. Maybe they could fight the terrorist with picket signs.

Maybe the terrorists don't have any beef with Berkeley. I'd rather they go nuke Texas, personally. California didn't go peeing on bee hives. Send the bees after the people who attacked them, instead of using liberals as straw men and human shields.

Conscription. By the way, I like your quote, though I had to re-arrange the words a little:
Quote:
STRENGTH IS PEACE
IGNORANCE IS SLAVERY
WAR IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY FOR FREEDOM

Very true. Don't piss off the bees. I've personally taken up Islam. I know the artist in Norway who drew that provocative picture of Mohammad had no business doing so. He rightly deserves to live under police protection like he does now. We certainly deserved the 9-11 attacks, and Osama bin Laden is a righteous leader. We should join in the jihad and turn on Texas.

Please.

Cat, why attack Berkely when they are so busy trying to suck up to scumbag murderers. It seems insane, but it is the same mentality that would apologize to the guy who invades your home and rapes your wife. This link explains the whole concept pretty well in layman's terms.
