Politics has gotten boring again! Someone sling some mud! We need some dirt! I hate these boring stretches of nothingness.

McCain is the republican candidate blah blah blah. Wont be newsworthy again until he selects a VP. Obama seems pretty much inevitable on the Dem side, so we get another few weeks of waiting for the inevitable. The best thing we can hope for there is for neither candidate to get the required delegates and watch the two of them mud wrestle over "Super" delegates.

No sign of anything exciting to happen for the next couple weeks. I might have to start watching UFC instead of the news.

I'll bite.

Boeing - one of the powerhouses of the Pac NW - lost a $35 billion contract to EADS / Airbus. They're livid, and holding pro-war marches and protesting in the streets around Seattle.

McCain's campaign finance chairman and several other top aides lobbied for Airbus to get the deal. The PI is reporting on the front page that McCain took $220,000 in contributions from EADS.

Quote:
“McCain has spoken out for years against the influence of special interests in Washington, but his campaign includes a number of prominent Washington lobbyists, including campaign manager Rick Davis, who founded a lobbying firm, and top political adviser, Charles R. Black Jr., chief executive of a well-known Washington firm. Neither of them lobbied for Airbus." "McCain finance chairman Thomas G. Loeffler and Susan E. Nelson, who left Loeffler's lobbying firm to be McCain's finance director, both began lobbying for Airbus's parent company in 2007, Senate records show. William L. Ball III, a former secretary of the Navy and frequent McCain surrogate on the trail, also lobbied for Airbus, as did John Green, who recently took a leave from Ogilvy Public Relations to serve as McCain's legislative liaison."

Yeh, I saw that story but it doesn't really have the feel of the type of mud that sticks. I say this only because I have an idea how government contracts get awarded, especially in the Military. Its like a boys club. Ex-generals and admirals seem to mostly go on to be board members of companies that sell products to the government, or produce products for industries that are heavily regulated by the government(Nuclear power, etc). Their membership on said boards unquestionably aides the sales. I'm not saying its the way it should be, it is just the way it is. Cheney's ties to Hallburton should have been equally scandalous for the 2004 election, yet weren't. I suppose the spin doctors could serve it up in a more savory manor for the viewing public, and maybe it'll get some legs.

This Spitzer story has some interest. Apparently the guys on Wall-street are throwing a party at his demise. Squeaky clean hyper aggressive ex-DA gets caught with high dollar hookers. Now that is gritty. Doesn't have much to do with politics, except the guy is a Democrat.

And a bit of a disappointment, too. He became a hero when he was going to sue the RIAA. Now he's Gary Hart.

I'm surprised he isn't governor anymore tho. That was freaking quick. Clinton held on for dear life when he got caught with his pants down.

Clinton wasnt telling everyone not to get hummers by his interns. Hell, he practically ran on that slogan. Spitzer is out because he was a hipocrit and a dirty cop. Its what makes the story so gritty and tastey.

So it would have been different if Clinton used a Cuban cigar?

Haha. As the head of a country with a ban on all things Cuban, I think that would have been very bad. That said, I think slick Willy would have gotten away with it, and the dog in most men would have even smiled on him even more.

Oh thank god. Something juicy.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...nate-tax_N.htm

Democrat controlled congress refuses to kill earmark pork barrel spending and raise taxes all in the same session. That ought to fuel the sell off in wall street as people start to lock in tax savings.
