Just wondering how many of will be participating, or have already participated. Ours starts in just 2 hours.
I will be turning of all lights in my home, as well as, other unnecessary electrical devices. Our server will be offline during earth hour.
How far will you go?

It's another hour for me. I'm not planning on sitting here in the dark and doing nothing for an hour, but I will make sure to turn off what ever lights, etc I don't need.
I don't use all that much in general. I obviously use electricity, but my needs are minimal. I think I do my part the rest of the year not using too much, which I think is more important than using nothing for an hour.

It is a good beginning to create awareness among the public about the global warming. We can contribute our part by switching off lights, fans, ACs, PCs whenever not required, thus saving a lot of energy

Turned out the lights. Just about everyone participated where I live. It was kinda neat to drive around looking at all of the dark houses; creepy. Would have been better if the streetlamps were shut off, though.

I'm sure that's exactly what the Earth Hour organisers were hoping you would do
Unless you have a Prius maybe?

Being a republican I participated too. I turned all my lights and anything electrical on, I went outside to burn all unwanted plastics, then I went out and started my SUV and held down the gas for about an hour. I love earth hour.

So you ran out all your gas in ten minutes, then spent the next fifty walking to the nearest gas station and back?

Haha, that post made me wonder how many burglaries were committed thanks to "Earth Hour". I personally cut down on my CO2 emissions by lowering my heart rate and breathing less while watching Fox News.

I'm sure we could really lower our CO2 emissions if (literal) "fat cats" slowed their breathing rate and stopped hogging the rest of humanity's oxygen.
I couldn't be bothered to participate - I only saw it on Google and I was just like "meh". I probably do use a bit too much energy but I turn most of the lights I don't use off these days so I'm doing my part.
The USA emits about a third of all CO2 (maybe more) in the whole world, while Britain (with a population 1/5th the size) emits about 2%. Quite a difference there....

I bet burglars were roaming around saying, "The lights are off. Bet those people are observing Earth hour and we can break in". Whoops that doesn't work. Most people turn their lights off at night anyway. Don't most thieves break in when people are not at home.
End of sarcasm.

Not to give your derail of this thread too much credence, but I just had to comment on the comedy of the ignorance of that statement. It really makes things clear when you look at the eco footprint of Bush's crawford ranch vs Al Gore's eco disaster mansion. Truly the height of hipocracy.

LOL. Now we've heard implications that Bush is a good steward of the environment. Want to tell us about the nobel prize he won?

Forgive me, but i think the idea of "earth hour" is such a gimmick and if you participated in it, you seriously have to question whether it actually made any difference to the environment.

Do you seriously think not burning fossil fuels is no different than burning them? Surely that's 'a difference.'
To celebrate my new membership in the Republican Party, I turned on every light in the house and wore sun glasses. Then I turned on the heat full blast and opened the windows. Then I turned the stereo up so loud I couldn't even hear the neighbors pounding on the door, and wore ear plugs.

I don't think the point of turning off the lights was the actual savings in energy for the hour. The idea was really awareness for the problems we face and to make us more aware of how much energy we use when we don't need to.
Ideally people will realize how often they do leave electricity running that could easily be turned off.
Why did this thread have to turn into a political discussion?
