Firstly, not all of Africa is poor. There are divides and these divides are extreme in contrast. They are like our "class" systems in the fact that there are rich and poor. The only difference is that their rich are VERY rich and their poor are VERY VERY poor.

The extremely wealthy part of Africa has a good diamond and oil trade going on. The rich part of Africa (and the governing bodies that rule) keep the money they have from this trade, all to their selves. They do not care for the poor part of their own country and choose to seclude it and abuse it to help their trade prospor. Yes, the "west" could easily stop doing trade with them, but why should they? It's not the "wests" fault that Africas leaders are a bunch of selfish horrible people who don't care about their own people.

Africa is "poor" because it is told so. otherwise, it isnt and it still has great potentials, and can bkoz the world's most successful continent in no time if the labor force is used efficiently!

All I know is war Lords block aid to people in need. There is no where to go to get any help. Children are always going to be born even in the most extreme situations and they are not the problem.

Have you ever seen the commercials to feed people in Africa? every family seems to have 4 or 5 kids, instead of sending food maybe people should start sending them some condoms.

I mean common sense would tell you if you are poor and have another kid you are going to be poorer than you were in the first place, and maybe you should stop having kids.

That is why people over their are dying and going hungry, its because the more kids they have the less food they have to eat.

Because of the bad people who rule biggest countries in Africa, lack of water and wars. Africa has got diamonds and gold, if they had smart, loyal and righteous governments Africa would be rich.

Africa is the richest continent on the planet in terms of agriculture, mineral deposits, oil and natural resources. You work it out.

Africa is a rich country is just that the leaders don't know how to lead.

So that's your answer. The poor part of africa suffers because their goverment leaders are horrible people who care for nothing but their own wealth. Just as most goverments are the same I might add, except, their goverment is very extreme and harsh in their judgement.

I think Africa is not a poor country maybe they were just mismanage or they don't have good leaders.

I don't think any country is poor all of the countries are blessed it is just how the leaders use this blessings.

That is true, i live in South Africa, People spend their time and resources in churches, that could be used to educate people, they think God will provide everything, its sad since Jesus is taking his time to return. Africa needs to do way with myth and religion and pick up a book and get some skills.

I agree. In fact, China has been extending help to some of these "poor"African countries to cultivate and develop their natural resources to prevent starvation. If only these "poor" people believe in themselves that life is not merely a "survival of the fittest", "this is our fate--poor and nobody", I think Africa would be a better nation.

Because they were misled from the very beginning. I think you can blame of the colonization which was interested only ingetting more profit and benefits from the continent, but not help people. And many centuries have been lost. Now it's immensely hard to restore everything.

wow this is the most ignorant thing i've seen here.first off,some countries in africa have relatively high GDP's if the thread starter even knows what that mean. Second, i'm not sure if i can "dumbdown" the intricacies of capitalism but lets put it this way..there's the have and the have nots and those that are high in resource and services get tooken advantage by the haves...any way the point is ye there are those commercials that publicize the matter..but in actuality there are people living in countries as rich as china that are incredibly impoverished..check out the documentary "manufactured Landscapes"..just don't be limited by t.v. propaganda and what the media exposes to you in the comfort of your little home...the world is bigger than where you grew up...

Africa is one of among the country rich on natural resources, it's just that their government is corrupt, not concentrating on their people, even education is scarce.....

It's a continent, Harry, with several countries, many of which have dictatorial governments that are the byproducts of colonialism and Cold War mucking about, but not all.

For me there is no such thing as a poor country the only reason that countries dont prosper is because of the path that they chose for their country
