Scott McClellan has complained that the Republicans are smearing his good name. I remember him doing that to a number of people - the poetic justice is interesting. I don't think Bush will be granting amnesty on this one, like he did with Scooter Libby.

Calling McClellan the "Closest member of the inner Bush Administration" is a complete misnomer. The guy was a mouth piece and not even involved in inner circle policy making. That is the reason his book is filled with speculation and contains no new facts. He said he saw Scooter Libby talking to Karl Rove and then, though he had no idea of the content of the conversation, speculates that were talking about details of a cover up, and then throws an easy to defend lie in saying that Scooter and Karl almost never communicated. The fact is, they always communicated, but I'm sure he'll just say he was unaware of that, if under oath. Apparently, there isn't very much he was aware of.
In politics they say "dance with the one that brung ya". I'll agree with your assessment that he will receive no help from the Bush administration. I hope he makes enough money to retire on from that book, as I doubt the Dems will want him now that he has demonstrated the fiber of his character.
