OK, first off, this isn't a thread to discuss whether or not God is real - that's been done repeatedly all over the place, so please don't hijack the thread with such discussions - I'm talking to Christians here

So do you? And if you do raise your hands when you are worshipping God, why? Is it even right to? I want your thoughts

It's certainly not wrong to, but I don't.

I don't raise my hand to worship GOD. it's enough for me that I'm sincere with what I did inside or outside the church.

when I was still a believer and still was sort of attending church, I only followed what every one was doing. stand when they did, kneel when they did, sang when all sang, sat when all did.
but I do raise my hand when my favorite singer is on stage. or when a beautiful lady is dancing in the bar...

Yes I do, but it doesn't make any leveling for my faith. It's like expressing yourself for God to see your true self. It's like opening your whole to Him.

I asked, because I've started doing it a lot recently (been at a really lively Christian youth festival). It's obviously symbolic - i.e. raising Christ on high and exalting Him above yourself, or opening yourself up to Him, but I did a bit of research on Google and there are some people who discourage the practice, which I thought was a bit strange. Biblically, there is little/no basis for raising your hands in worship, at least in the New Testament. Of course, there are other sites that encourage everyone to worship freely and openly and do what ever they want, guided by the Holy Spirit.

The whole issue of how we worship God is an interesting one too. Personally, I think God doesn't mind how we worship Him as long as we are doing it sincerely and not just because everyone else is doing it.

I don't. He can hear me no matter what my posture is. So, I just act naturally when I speak with God. And, for me, that means I do it pretty often, and very informally.

well, not because a lot of people does it or a lot doesn't. it doesn't mean that you should always follow them. you have your own beliefs and you have your own ways of expressing them

For me it depends on the situation. When I pray and speak to God on a daily basis, no, I don't raise my hands. When I am worshiping and feel moved to raise my hands I do, mostly while singing hymns that particularly speak to me personally and are deeply meaningful to me.
