With another storm threatening New Orleans, the president and vice president have canceled their plans to speak at or even attend the Republican national convention. After Katrina ("Heckuva job, Brownie!"), the presence of Bush or Cheney at the RNC would simply be too embarrassing for John McCain.

I'm shocked they aren't doing a better job of spinning that.

Fortunately for the next generation of refugees, McCain has finally brought himself to admit that decades of Republican policy and dogma has been 100 % in opposition to reality. "I will clean up the planet," McCain said. "I will make global warming a priority."

Fortunately, a lot of the residents are evacuated, and people are expecting the levy to hold.

Did you see the special about how they are going out of their way to evac the homeless and indigent? Very reminiscent of the time Willie Brown shipped the homeless out of San Francisco and dropped them off in Oakland. Wonder where they are sending them.

Regarding Bush/Cheney, rumor has it they've packed up their fishing gear and headed for New Orleans.

This is unheard of. In my lifetime, the only imaginable reason a president would not attend his (or, someday, her) own party's convention, would be if that president was dead. Bush's presence would have been a serious humiliation and detriment to the campaign.

I know I posted it before but I think the ocasion calls for it. Maybe Bush is headed to New Orleans to provide some light hearted entertainment....

and you know McCain could not be happier.
