McCain to bomb Spain?

Wow! I'm shocked the people who've been bashing Obama's experience for the past 9 months aren't commenting about McCain's recent antagonism toward Spain for being part of Latin America!
Here's a partial transcription of the interview. This is bizarre and baffling, but, keep in mind, it's from the same person who called Vladimir Putin the "president of Germany," wants to bomb the non existent "Al Quaeda in Iran" and so on.
QUESTION: Senator, finally, let's talk about Spain. If you're elected president, would you be willing to invite President Jose Luiz Rodriguez Zapatero to the White House to meet with you?
MCCAIN: I would be willing meet, uh, with those leaders who our friends [sic] and want to work with us in a cooperative fashion, and by the way, President Calderon of Mexico is fighting a very very tough fight against the drug cartels. I'm glad we are now working in cooperation with the Mexican government on the Merida plan. I intend to move forward with relations, and invite as many of them as I can, those leaders, to the White House.
QUESTION: Would that invitation be extended to the Zapatero government, to the president itself?
MCCAIN: I don't, you know, honestly I have to look at relations and the situations and the priorities, but I can assure you I will establish closer relations with our friends and I will stand up to those who want to do harm to the United States of America.
QUESTION: So you have to wait and see if he's willing to meet with you, or you'll be able to do it in the White House?
MCCAIN: Well again I don't, all I can tell you is that I have a clear record of working with leaders in the hemisphere that are friends with us, and standing up to those who are not, and that's judged on the basis of the importance of our relationship with Latin America, and the entire region.
QUESTION: Okay... what about Europe I'm talking about the President of Spain?
MCCAIN: What about me what?
QUESTION: Okay... are you willing to meet with him if you are elected president?
MCCAIN: I am willing to meet with any leader who is dedicated to the same principles and philosophy that we are for human rights, democracy and freedom, and I will stand up to those that do not.
The point, I think, is that knowing whether a particular country is an ally or enemy of ours, or being able to tell Europe apart from Central and South America - these are "presidential" qualities that anyone with access to "the button" must be capable of. Most people start experiencing some type of age related mental degeneration by the time they hit their 70s, and dementia isn't a character flaw on McCain's part. But it is a disqualifier.

Yeah, he did say: Let's talk about Spain and McCain starts blabbering about South America...
when you know that GWB didn't even have a passport before being elected president - it shows you that Americans don't put international relations in their top 10 criteria when electing their president.

Nope, couldn't care less what other countries think about us..
The fact that McCain didn't know who the president of Spain is, or wants to research whether he is a friend or not, doesn't bother me at all.. I didn't know who the president of Spain was before this post.. As I'm sure most people here can't name the leaders of most countries..
Just like most people won't know who Michaelle Jeanis without looking it up..
BTW, nice spin job on the title..

I agree. Most of us can't name the leaders of most countries. That is also why most of us don't run for president. Everyone should have his specialty. Every person applying for an SEO job should know what anchor text is, meta tags etc...ask most of the people, they don't know.
In the job of president of the US, I think having general knowledge on the international status is mandatory. Shouldn't you know a bit about the world and the place of your country in it before running it?

As long as we're putting words in each other's mouths to distract people away from the message, I don't care whether the Great Pyramid weights more or less than the Sears Tower.

Which isn't a surprise, considering you've consistently demonstrated a believe that no Republican with a government job should ever have to do anything the American People have hired that person for. If, as you suggest, we can't hold elected and nonelected Republicans accountable for their policy, why should they be required to understand reality?

You're not running for president ( aka Leader of the Free World), so the relevancy of this statement is zero.

Not Tuvalu, sure, but you can bet your bottom dollar most people here know Spain isn't part of Latin America.
Most of us can also tell Putin and Merkel apart, and know which country each leads. You know both of these without looking them up. McCain seems not to.
What I find most alarming is how your statement that you couldn't care less that McCain is grossly unqualified to be President and Commander in Chief ( representative of most conservatives today) conflicts so hypocritically with everything your party's talking points have had to say about Mr Obama. Why the double standard?

Hehe, I'm surprised you gave this thread a response. 1) No part of any of that conversation implied McCain would bomb spain 2) No part of that conversation showed McCain didnt know who the president of Spain was 3) To use the fact the conversation moved on to the subject of the Mexican government and Latin American relations does not give any evidence that McCain somehow or other believes Spain is part of Latin America. Then again, anyone with a few braincells to rub together can recognize those three facts. The fact is, scraping this cr*p off the Huffington post and repeating it does nothing but insult the intelligence of the moderate and undecided viewing audience. Republicans would have the same types of issues if they repeatedly harped on Obama's 57 states comment and insisted that it indicated Obama really didnt know how many states there are. It just shows you how worked up the Dems are right now. The polls are dead even and this is the best they can dig up. So sad. I'm going to get a tissue.

I like how you assume I'm a republican..
I've also never once said that ANYONE running for office was qualified to hold any of those positions.. But you are welcome to continue to try to twist what I do say any way you want.. I find it entertaining..

What I want to know is why people who don't live in this country and are not registered to vote are so darned interested in the politics of this country?
Anyone care to explain?

I wouldn't blame people that don't live in the USA to be so inserted into our politics, as what the recent president has done to scar our reputation with the entire world they want to know which one of our next presidents will do.
And on top of that, we either have McBush who is mentally retarded or a black man who wasn't even born in the USA and doesn't respect our own national anthem.

Why does the color of the canidates skin enter into this at all?
You should be more concerned about his core beliefs or lack thereof. Focusing on race is what the media wants you to do because the canidate is so far left as to be scary.

Because the States are so powerful that they influence the whole world. I'm not only talking about wars but about economy as well.
Wouldn't you want to be involved in something that is gonna affect your country?

The financial collapse caused by GWB's tax and spend policy ( particularly the several trillion dollar Iraq debacle), the devaluation of the dollar, which most oil has been pegged to, et cetera. "When America sneezes, the world catches a cold."

That is just plain BS and you know it. The collaspe is caused by unregulated greed. Frankly I would protect the economy and bankrupt the companies that participated. The only bailouts would protect the Americam public.
I'm sure the fat cats still have their homes and fancy cars.

Sure, if we want to say republicans can't be held accountable for the deregulation measures they've pushed through into law, then it's simply nobody's fault. Which, after all, is the politically correct way to spare feelings.

I think there are 535 people other than the president to blame for this fine mess we are now confronted with. I personally hold all of them accountable.
