Barack Obama won North Carolina! NC hasn't voted Democrat since Joshua fought the Battle of Jericho.

This election is an unprecedented butt kicking. The American people are making it clear that they're extremely, ahem, "displeased" with the Reign of Error the Rubberstamp Republicans have bankrupted America with.

Speaking of surprises, Maine also voted for Obama and is primarily Republican state.

Carter was the last Democrat running for President to win NC, back in 1976. What you should be considering the ultimate irony is that Obama won as a Democrat, when it was the Democrats that comprised the "solid South" that opposed civil rights. There have been a number of Democrats who have won high elected office here; they're just not the off-the-deep-end pinko Berkeley/Chapel Hill types you think of when you think Democrat.
