This is not THE definitive answer, but this is a Remember This.

Traffic will not happen overnight. It takes time to develop. A steady walk gets nowhere fast, but over time, it covers the miles. Also, think back to the time where only a couple visited, and then that grew. And it will continue to grow with effort.

End of Dave's short pep talk!

Could You Have Possibly Asked A More Complicated Question?

Well where do we start? First let's talk about traffic in general.

I think I saw you signup at our traffic exchanges site. I do not
want to 'plug' my site though. In fact quite the opposite...

Free traffic exchanges are not very good.

Free traffic exchanges DO work and you CAN get a lot of traffic
from them. Surfing 50 sites a day does add up quickly but unless
you have referred others you will never really see much traffic
unless you surf all day long!

In reality traffic exchanges are poor quality, untargetted
traffic. Later I will post an article about how to use untargetted
traffic to the best advantage.

But I think you were looking more for ideas to 'get' traffic.
Before we can really answer you please answer the following questions:

- who is your audience?
- how much traffic do you get now?
- how much extra traffic would you like next month?
- do you have a subscriber list?

I have other questions I ask clients but this will do for now.

Before we can really answer you please answer the following questions:

Question: who is your audience?

Answer: It was originally created for the alton Illinois and Stlouis Mo area residents but it seems im getting alot of ads with people just wanting to promote there site in my busines section.

Question: how much traffic do you get now?

Answer: Approximatley 15 uniques unless...I bump it up with the surf programs which doesnt seem to add very many uniques

Question: how much extra traffic would you like next month?

Answer : 3000 uniques oh what the heck 6000 uniques

Question: do you have a subscriber list?

Answer: Yes about 63

I have other questions I ask clients but this will do for now.

Well, I am not the expert in traffic generation but I do
a lot of testing. Here are a few ideas I can offer to get you started.

RE: Your stats: Reloads 74.42%
This is good, it means visitors are actually people and visiting your page

Turning Existing Visitors Into More Hits
==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Turn your unique visitors into more page hits. Encourage
them to click to a second page. Then a third, etc..

In other words, find a way to turn 500 visitors a month into:
1500 (500 X 2) hits
and earn 1500 link or banner credits.

Maximize the traffic you have with an 'effective' banner, link exchange,
or whatever you prefer.

example:
http://www.bannersgomlm.com , a 1 to 1 banner exchange

Turning Existing Visitors Into More Visitors
==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Promote some kind of viral marketing widget like a brandible
ebook or viral marketing service.

Examples:
http://www.ezfree.net
http://trafikk.noan.net/trafikk.cgi

Getting More New Traffic
==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I do not pretend to be the expert in traffic generation,
and as I have said before, free traffic exchanges are
not the holy grail people pretend them to be. However,
leveraging abilities such as above, can certainly get
you more mileage out of your efforts.

Beyond that, it comes down to 2 main things:
- money
- medium

By medium I mean 'where you advertise'.

The most successfull marketing results I have had have been from
'quality' newsletters. Not ones full of hundreds of ads and no
content, but long established zines that have actual readers.

Solo ads are better than sponsor (top, bigger) ads which are better than classified (middle, bottom, smaller) ads.

As for traffic generation itself, beyond paying (or surfing) for hits,
it is all about repeat visitors.

Ok, it actually takes a third thing:

- testing

I am sure there are more experienced marketers than I here, that
will tell you the same basic thing.

Track every hit (both new and repeat), know what you want your
visitors do (this is called your most wanted response) and
constantly test new TITLES, new AD TEXT, etc., etc
