Thanks Kelly. Yep that's exactly what is meant by one way links. It's ok to trade links with people, but those traded links are probably best to be kept to a small percentage of your overall links.
The idea is that if I link to your site without getting a link back then I do think your site is valuable. If I need the link back then I may not really be voting for your site, but we're both just trying to give ourselves a boost in the search rankings. There are legitimate reasons to exchange links so there's nothing wrong with it, but it's the one way links where you don't link back that will have more of an effect.
