my understanding is if there are mostly tons of adds to a site .you CANT get promoted. on the engines. SSSSSSSSOOOOOO now how can i get listed? i have a MALL!!! AND ITS ALL LINKS TO SHOPS!!! think of a real mall . its a building with just shops in it ! well my mall is nice looking with some stuff besides links BUT now what? i have 150 plus links plus banner shops!(( some are downright boreing without the banners)) like how many times can you say over and over. a same selection in text::: rent a car here or buy a car here one is a nation brand the other is home town. see if it was pictures its nicer! then you see it! i want to keep as many banners as i can so NOW HOW CAN I GET IT LISTED???? AS IN???? MAKE THEM POST ME!!???(((((((((((( geting past the inspection )))))))))))))) PS I ALL READY TRYED 250 WORDs RICH pages ON EACH PAGE!! DIDNT WORK! im still not listed after 21/2 months to top engines.

Hi teddibubbles,

I just took a peek at your site (it's the one you have set as your www link, right?), and I think I can figure out why you're not getting listed. The first thing I would do is create a full layout, with a navigation bar. You will also need a focused introduction. I think that at the moment, you might have too much text, and also a bit off-topic, on the main page. The weather forecast seems unnecessary (perhaps it could be moved into a "store", lol), and the jokes need to be relocated as well. This is the first step to getting listed (and getting more visitors, as well, with a very friendly layout).

That's only the tip of the iceberg. Once you have done this, you will need to work on creating a professional image with your mall. Perhaps you could design a map, where users can click on the map to get to certain rooms. Or perhaps you could create mini-images (of what "stores" are located on each floor) and put them into some kind of a table. You can even go for a plain look, with just an image of a house divided into floors with nothing but text and a description (like you have now) on each floor. However, whatever you do, I think you will be needing images. You will also need to organize your links (you can keep the images, of course) into an organized table. This will also help make the site neater, keeping users attracted. And to help with the search engine, provide a well-written description of each floor (and just write a regular paragraph; there's no need to add extra words to get more keywords) You have now finished almost all of the rebuilding process!

Only one tiny step left. I notice that you are hosted on Hypermart. This is something you really want to avoid, even if you are using the paid option of Hypermart (I noticed that you don't have any pop-ups ). Search engines like sites with their own top-level domain. So, if you had something like strawberry-malls.com (I'm not sure if that's registered or not), it would probably fare better than strawberry-malls.hypermart.net. After that, I suggest you get a reliable, cheap host (there are many out there; to name a few, here are the cheapest that I have discovered: valcato.net, myacen.com, and hostingextreme.com). Well, anyway, good luck with rebuilding your website, and hope you make it to the search engines!

Just to add something to conkermaniac's post. I agree that the site should be redesigned, and this should be your first priority.

The problem you are facing is that, although what you are doing is a good idea and the list is worthy content for a website, search engines probably pick up on the Comission Junction links on the page and think that it is just a list of as many affiliate links as you can get, which they often don't want to include in their indexes.

What I would recommend, though, is possibly having each 'shop' on its own page on the site with 2/3 paragraphs of information about it, or at least more information under each one. Not only would this help visitors further, I think that as some search engines reject sites which appear to be all affiliate links. By writing extra information on the pages of lists the search engines will pick up on this content and are more likely to list you. This would probably work even better with each shop on its own page.

A couple of ideas for promotion I have come up with are partnerships and PPC search engines. Partnerships may work quite well. If you can find some 'smaller' shops (possibly local ones) and agree to work with them on the mall. They could then provide you with things such as 'featured products' which would increase the chances of a visitor to your site going to that shop and buying something. They could also place a link back to your mall. You might not get such high commissions from your parnters this way but if you could actually get a virtual mall working (with links both way instead of you just linking to the shop) you might find that you are very successful.

Although shops may be a bit unhappy about linking back to you, you could explain the 'real mall' concept i.e. in a real shopping centre or mall you would go in looking for something, go into the shop you want to buy from and get something, but afterwards you might walk around the rest of the mall and buy something else. The same could, in theory, work on the internet. Its always worth a try

A more conventional route would be to advertise on some pay-per-click search engines. These would guarantee you traffic (although you would need to pay for it, which going by your previous post might be a problem) but if you can write good sales copy you would be quite likely to make the sale. Try targeting specific keywords, though, not the normal:
shop, mall, buy etc.

Hope thats of some help

I want to say first that I agree with conker and david.

However I also want to add that making any money using just affiliate programs and having a mall is very difficult if not impossible.

I know as I was where you are right now about five years ago. I had my cybermall and thought I was going to make a killing. I even had the domain name and hosting.

Know what? I didn't even make a dime. Even now with content rich popular websites I am barely making anything off affiliate links.

I even have studied how best to place affiliate and optimize things for the most return. I am making more than I did with my Cybermall but I am by no means rolling in it.

I don't say any of this to totally discourage you but rather to save you some of the time etc. I wasted having a cybermall.

If you do continue I sincerely wish you success with it.

I just thought I'd add a little more to this thread. I've done a very quick drawing of an idea I have for a Mall design. Thats about all I can do with it, though (I can't give you a webpage version because the paper version is all I did).

It would probably be quite difficult to implement, though, but you can take a look all the same and might be able to make something out of it.

Teddi,

2 1/2 months is absolutely nothing in the world of search engines. It can take up to 6 months to get listed in most of the major search engines. You will probably never get into ODP or Yahoo. Without those listings, you are pretty much lost in the world of search engines.

What the others have told you is correct. You need to rework your entire site to even have a chance at making it. Right now it doesn't look professional. Most people will see the site and leave.

Affiliates don't really make much money. You will not get rich or even make a living like that. It just doesn't happen. I know they tell you how you can, but you really can't.

Hi Teddi,

You might want to make a post in the Site Review section if you want even more opinions on how to help your site. It might be viewed more there.

You can also put a link to your site in your sig and get more people looking there too.

And by the way, there is hope! But just like everything, it does take some time to develop ideas into businesses.

Dave
