I learned everything in little bits and pieces and somehow managed to put everything together. I learned PHP first because I didn't want to pay some random dude in India to make my site, then I learned about SEO, and monetization, etc, and here I am
I'm still pretty much new into the game. I learn a lot from Sitepoint, and from other people. Read a lot of articles and books. But most of all, I learn from other people's websites.

I learned through just making sites and reading tutorials online and a lot of practice. I remember the good ol' days of CENSORED which is where I learned HTML.
The first webmaster forum I visited was CENSORED, which died a long time ago (still up, just dead). I believe I have over 800 posts there actually.. fun to read.. where I'm asking very basic questions! Good times.. good times..
I knew HTML for a long time but haven't thought of making money on the net since six months ago. I learned all I know so far from reading forums or blogs.
I got into web designer after I worked for a failed web hosting company just before the internet bubble burst. I was working there for around 6 months. That gave me the idea of learning web designing as I thought it would be good to have a website. I didn't even think much about earning from it and then I started seeing that sites had these things called affiliate programs and learn't from there. I have learn't most of my programming from tutorial sites and I have manually learn't myself about monetizing my sites, but forums have helped in a big way when it comes to SEO and getting help for other things.
