There are a couple of different ways that you can make money from your website, however I was just wondering how much success people have finding their own advertisers rather than just using an ad system such as Google Adsense.

I get contacted quite often regading advertising on my site, but nothing usually pans out. They usually end up wanting to may equal to or not enough above what I can make via the regular ad networks.

Simply not worth my time for a few extra bucks.

I do get a few that work out at times, but mostly for me it is the standard ad networks.

I am beginning, however, to concentrate on advertising a little more and plan on setting up a more aggressive advertising page fairly soon

I do pretty well selling ads directly to advertisers. I bring in about 10x the amount I get from Adsense this way. It's more dependable, you get to build a relationship with the advertisers (to Google you're just a number), and you have better quality control.

I have both. Google adsense and indie advertisers. They contact me (rather than me contacting them). I find there is a place on my sites for both.

Usually people contact me but lately I keep getting targetted ads through Google adsense. So, I send those people emails with my ratecard attached. Works out pretty well actually. They already know about my site.

You've probably got to build up quite a bit of traffic or be an authority in your field for advertisers to approach you directly. If you have a very specific target you could try contacting related advertisers, having traffic will always be the key though I think.

It works great for me. I know longer use adsense as I generate enough revenue from direct text links/banner space

I get contacted by people for text footer links and such but nothing much more than that, I've solicited a few people as well after seeing them buy links elsewhere but for the most part it's them contacting me. I like Adsense because I just throw up a block and it earns money for me without much fuss.

I find that I do much better selling ads then doing something like Adsense - the main reason is because I don't believe in "click incentives" - so my adsense looks ugly, bare, and plain as day...

I find that the money I charge advertisors makes for a much better, and more consistent stream of revenue.
