Hey,

If you have space going on your site, which do you think you should do, have a banner showing the space is available in the hope to attract new advertisers quicker, or put in a filler that will pay you a lower rate until you find an advertiser?

Normally I have a banner showing the space is available, but I have just started testing out using a filler to see if it makes much difference.

I always end up promoting other websites I run if Adsense is already maxed out on the page. I don't run any CPM based networks because the ads aren't relevant enough.

I promote my own sites or a friend's site. I usually don't have available space though because I use AdSense mainly, heh.

Edit: Oh, and CJ ads are put up too.

I always run either cpc ads via adsense, or cpm ads in any open space.

I think it would be good to add some banner that shows that the spot is available to buy. But if you have a site with very good traffic and memberbase, maybe filling that spot with some cpc is a better deal.

This highly depends on your target audience, traffic and your websites credibility.

If you're receiving high amounts of traffic, the best two options would be either a CPC banner placement or to advertise that the space is available to rent for advertisement.

Where this banner links to is also very important. I'd highly suggest a custom landing page with information on traffic, CTR, demographics, etc.

Use the filler ads and code a vertical bar next to it saying adspace available which links to your rates page. Or split the space in half and do half-filler, half promo...

On client sites I've found cross-promotion to work quite well.
