I looked at this forum today after the new skin was applied and immediately made a change to my ATV forum.

Instead of a leaderboard ad, I have added the left side bar to the forumhome. I will still show the leaderboard on forumdisplay and showthread, however.

Anybody tested these locations and have a preference?

Now, I am not using the industry standard "0000FF" link (from the great podcast). Looking at my forum, do you think I should? I always use the blue link on my leaderboards, but I fear it might look out of place on the ATV forum.

Looking forward to your imput folks, I can never make too much money

From personal experience on previous forums sidebar advertisements have had the most clicks, and have always been in the default 0000FF colour code or a tasty looking graphic advert.

Leaderboards in most cases are intruding, while sidebar banners and ads can be hidden quite easily, and don't impose directly on the websites appearance and content.

I get better results with a leaderboard at the top AND one in the left column. The leaderboard outperforms the side column by 4/1 in CTR.

I think you should test them out... try one for a week, then try the other, and see which returns the best results. That's what I'd do.

Good luck.

I always test and monitor performance. Just gettig views from others who have tried these.

I am a big believer in keeping the forums looking clean when implementing my ads. I looked at them on this forum's home page and really liked the look.

In addition, the ads kept drawing my attetion being on the left side. I have implemented it on my new forum http://www.mudbog.net/forum and thinking about trying it with some others as well.

I've found that sidebar ads don't get very many clicks for me however the ones that are in the middle of the page get very high clicks.

I would agree, the best way to find out is to perform a test.

I would think the left skyscraper ad will perform better and then the leaderboard on the top center of the forums and then the right skyscraper and then the bottom leaderboard.
