Curious to see what method of displaying ads is most productive for you. Posting your type of site will help when explaining.

I will use me for an example, but keep in mind I am not set in which way is the most productive in terms of earning money.

First of course in my ad rotation comes private advertisement contracts. After that, I have a fairly long list of ad networks and adsense to display. I have been running them in this order after private ads:

1. Tribal Fusion
2. Burst
3. Value Click
4. Casale
5. Adsense
6. Affiliate ads (this one moves up and down the list)

I am beginning to doubt myself here to an extent. Is it a good idea to run ads in the same order throughout the site, or should I break it up? For example, maybe showing them in a reverse order in my forum, then what I show in the content area of the site. With the best paying ads typically coming earlier in the day, I am thinking that would possibly maximize my earnings from more networks.

I know some will say adsense should be placed higher as it is a good earner, but for this particular site I seem to have about 4 months a year where adsense shines, the rest of the year it is mediocre at best.

To expand this further, do you agree with showing this many ad networks or do you choose to stick with one or two?

I've found that the most profitable ads are the private contracts. That's where I concentrate my efforts and leave some of the ad networks in there just to have some revenue (albeit not much in comparison to private contracts).

My goal is to maximize the number of private contracts. Then I'll worry about expanding site traffic and getting more contracts.

Question: If you're running adsense as well, why would someone run a private contract with you rather than, say, doing it through adsense and paying a few bucks cpm?
