"Arcade"/Gaming sites - profitable?

Wondering if anyone has any experience with these sites that offer a load of Flash games?

Seems like there is a lot around, but it seems like quite a nice simple site to setup and forget about - only adding new games once a week or something. But what I was wondering is, what sort of ads would you run on these things? I get the feeling CPC sex ads would be great here, but it might make the site feel a bit seedy if you know what I mean. I dont think Adsense would work too great here? :s

I'm also wondering about the click-through you;d be able to expect. I am assuming it would be pretty low?

Any input appreciated

Any type of website can be profitable if you can seo the crap out of it and generate traffic. Adsense can make you money on websites no matter what the topic.

Yes, gaming sites can be very proffitable. It all depends on how you advertise the site.

One of my own sites is very profitable. Brings in $xxx per day. www.sharedpcgames.com

so there is definitely money to be made mattd, you just have to stand out from the rest :-D

If you have a good number of games, make the site appealing and if you place the ads in the correct way it's unbelievably easy to make money from arcade sites.

Google Adsense and things like ValueClick are probably the best to use.

Very nice Matthew, how many uniques a day are you getting? If you don't mind me asking.

Hi, nice looking site. I had a quick look at a few games you have - they all seemed to be "branded" with your URL. Do you make/pay for all your own games, or are you using some kind of "wrapper" or something?

Seen a load of "free games" so was thinking of using those and perhaps comissioning some custom ones from people I know just to stand out etc.

Thanks

Arcade sites can be very profitable, especially with YPN.
Updating it with new games costs some time though, unless you buy game packs.

Gaming sites can be very profitable, but they are a dime a dozen. If you have the bucks or resources to promote it, you should do well.

I'm currently in the mist of working on one. They are quite easy as not too much work needs to be done with it every day or sometimes, week.

SharedPCGames seem to somehow have their brand on it at the beginning. Matthew, mind sharing how you did that?

I suspect that with flash stuff you can like "embed" another flash animation in one, but not totally sure!

Looks like just a delayed graphic (have seen others use an ad) that shows for a few moments before the game starts.

Where do bigger arcade sits like SharedPcGames get their traffic from? Alot of them like that site don't rely on SE's at all.

Also the thing about sharedpcgames is that they have a couple of their own games that were developed for it. I'm sure that gets a lot of traffic

It depends on your traffic, if it's mostly US based it has to be YPN. If it's traffic from all around the world use Adsense.

Might even be best to use a script that finds the origin of the user and display ads relevent to them, so if they're US show YPN, if they are from another country show Adsense.

What matthew does could be easily done with javascript (i think :shuriken: )

Display something for a certain amount of seconds... after those seconds display the arcade game

Logical.

But i like how he got 2 games developed for his site

I also have a question about your ads. Isn't it a no-no for images next to yahoo ads? Or is that my imagination?
