Yeah, my earnings vary by +/- $50-$70/day.. Which is out of control. So a $1 rise is meaningless .

Perhaps a better approach for you is to lower the value of sigma by some set amount. In other words, reduce the variance.

If you think about it on a wider scale... That extra $1 per day, is an extra $365 per year - Can you honestly say $365 is meaningless? :whistling:

This thread was inspiring to me as well.
I started reading about SEO and monetization in June on Sitepoint. In July I discovered Forum Trends and Earners Forum. Taking the things I read here, I started implementing them. Here are my numbers from Google. They are not staggering, but the percentage increase is 35-50% each month. If I can keep this up, things will deffinately improve for me.
June - $6.81
July - $10.98
August - $20.11
September - $30.12 <-- Still have 2 1/2 weeks to go.
Another thing to keep in mind is my traffic actually dropped in September because I revamped one of my sites that had 1000+ pages to make it more SEO friendly and easier to integrate the ads. I lost roughly 600-1000 page views a day from the search engines, at least until google reindexes my site. Yet, my revenue is up. I can't wait until I get everything back into google.
So, yea, $1 a day can make a difference if you think long term.
My next goal is to get some of my other site ideas up and running and shoot for $20 a day.

Great idea about $1. It is a great place to start especially if you are just starting out. You have to start somewhere. If you are trying to make money and you do not have a goal to at least raise your income, you will not. Making it reachable and realistic is also important.

Quite likely you do. This is actually partially the theme of my fairly young personal webdev site, my audience should end up being anyone that needs some motivation, from gurus that need a kick in the @ss or a laugh to novice webmasters that are inexperienced but anxious.... just like me! (at the hands on work anyway!)
Many people struggle to do what they want with their sites/projects.... I do as well (when I'm not paying someone else to do it) so I'm trying to contribute as I can... Many people get overwhelmed with coding, cms this that, modifying this and that etc, promotion etc,,,, where I do as well but I only let it scatter my brain not deter me! I would build and operate an airport and fly the planes if I had to, even if it meant hiring someone to do it for me and sitting in front of MSFlightSimulator for a year straight. I'm trying to share this angle with others,,,, and my articles reflect how I will fumble around and f#ck things up and but be happy about it and in the end, make money, even if it is only a dollar!
I think to many people skew what they're really trying to accomplish, I've seen myself who has no formal education nor have any programming expertise or any useful expertise at all be more successful then fully trained and educated gurus of many areas because they have no motivation or they want to be RICH, where as I want to make 'one dollar' and am determined to do so.
What does it take to be a top earner?
I believe mostly anyone can be a top earner,,, so long as we all work within our skill sets and set realistic goals... small milestones, small projects, network with others, learn and keep at it.
How do you become a top earner?
If you want to be a top earner, set your daily goal to one dollar higher then your current income. So if you make $0.00 a day then your goal will be to make $1.00 a day. If you make $500.00 a day, then your new goal will be to make $501.00 a day. Don't think about your desires for fame and fortune as a top earner, think about reaching that extra ONE DOLLAR goal.
Now keep going.
One dollar at a time.
Lastly, an honest road and effort would be my suggested route to becoming a top earner.
The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed. -Henry Ford

Thanks for the comments.
RE: spikes of daily income. My concept was more about the daily average.
RE: $1 not being enough. The concept was actually more for newbies/low earners I suppose. I actually wrote the post almost as a 'note to self' when I was just starting to make progress..... $1 a day average was a nice increment. Of course for those that like to jump for the stars rather then reach, you can aim for $50 a day if you want, but if you fall back to earth then make sure you have this thread stickied! hehe. I guess high earners of course also would not be interested in $1 a day, but ultimately the message is to set a small goal because in my opinion it's a great way to grow.
Actually, even since I've posted this article I've made much progress. Of course with the help of Sitepoint, digitalpoint, earnersforum etc. and a lot of hard work and of course all $1 at a time! I should be in the red by early next year,,, couple months so I'm happy.
To all still getting started, keep at it, and have fun!
Cheers
