One Dollar - Do you have what it takes to be a top earner?
Quite likely you do. This is actually partially the theme of my fairly young personal webdev site, my audience should end up being anyone that needs some motivation, from gurus that need a kick in the @ss or a laugh to novice webmasters that are inexperienced but anxious.... just like me! (at the hands on work anyway!)
Many people struggle to do what they want with their sites/projects.... I do as well (when I'm not paying someone else to do it) so I'm trying to contribute as I can... Many people get overwhelmed with coding, cms this that, modifying this and that etc, promotion etc,,,, where I do as well but I only let it scatter my brain not deter me! I would build and operate an airport and fly the planes if I had to, even if it meant hiring someone to do it for me and sitting in front of MSFlightSimulator for a year straight. I'm trying to share this angle with others,,,, and my articles reflect how I will fumble around and f#ck things up and but be happy about it and in the end, make money, even if it is only a dollar!
I think to many people skew what they're really trying to accomplish, I've seen myself who has no formal education nor have any programming expertise or any useful expertise at all be more successful then fully trained and educated gurus of many areas because they have no motivation or they want to be RICH, where as I want to make 'one dollar' and am determined to do so.
What does it take to be a top earner?
I believe mostly anyone can be a top earner,,, so long as we all work within our skill sets and set realistic goals... small milestones, small projects, network with others, learn and keep at it.
How do you become a top earner?
If you want to be a top earner, set your daily goal to one dollar higher then your current income. So if you make $0.00 a day then your goal will be to make $1.00 a day. If you make $500.00 a day, then your new goal will be to make $501.00 a day. Don't think about your desires for fame and fortune as a top earner, think about reaching that extra ONE DOLLAR goal.
Now keep going.
One dollar at a time.
Lastly, an honest road and effort would be my suggested route to becoming a top earner.
The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed. -Henry Ford

Today you just made one dollar.
PM me your paypal address, I will send you $1.00.
Sometimes it's that easy. Often it is not.
Keep at it! Take a look at what your doing now and see if there is something you can do better or different. Perhaps time for a new website? Is there a topic that you are savvy on or passionate about that you could make a new site surrounding it?

Agree with you on that, it's an old proverb but I love it.
"How do you eat an Elephant?
One bite at time."
In a race against a tortoise and a hare, the tortoise always wins. Took me ages to really understand that.
Too many people, especially on other boards seem to think making a ton of cash online is easy. It's all about hard work and sacrifice.
If one dollar is too high for you then start with 10c.
Or make a goal to get a link from a pr 6.

Interesting concept, but why would I have to worry about making an extra dollar every day? How would it make me a top earner? Earning $1 more than what I currently earn wouldn't be much.

After a month it'd be an extra $30/day, or $900/mo. I believe that is the point. Does that mean you're going to go from $0 to $900/mo in thirty days? No. Is it possible? Yes.
You know just as I posted that, I was thinking we should have a contest on this forum. Opt-in of course, but pair up members of different skill levels to form teams, ideally to create as level of a playing field as possible. Establish an initial spending limit for all teams, though profits can be recycled, and see which team can earn the most in 90 days.

Very true. Lots of people get involved with trying to make it online because they view it as a way to get out of doing actual work. That couldn't be farther from the truth, especially when starting out. And to continue to make that climb into big money simply means you cannot become content with where you are at.
If you are struggling to make a dollar online a day, take a break and evaluate what you do in the course of a day. How much of your online time is actually spent "working productively".
What are you spending your money on? How could you spend it more wisely?
What are you doing to get traffic to your site? A little social networking can result in positive traffic to your site. Not talking about playing around with myspace friends here, although you could probably use that in your favor as well.
I wasted over two years looking around at ways to make money, and wondering how I could make money, and wishing I could make money. It took me that long, and losing my full time job, to finally allow things to sink in. Track anything you do online and invest your time and money wisely.

Yes, I did read your whole post, but I still don't agree with the "one dollar at a time" idea. I try to make as much as I can each day, but aiming to get $1 more won't help me much. It might help in the long run, like if I earn $1 extra each day for a year, then I'll have made only $365 extra. If you want to earn more than you make, aim for earning more than $1 per day. Just $1 more per day is not worth your time.

Great advice, thank you.
I've spent the last two years doing the same things,,, I wouldn't consider a waste though, I was just more idle then I should have been.
None the less I think the point is that we all have to come to a turning point based on exactly your suggestion, "take a break and evaluate".
Also, losing my full time job is something I actually look forward to! :-D (I think seen another thread on that idea, off I go to find it!)

Typically most of us work on daily averages or averages period to observe our income not spikes.
Of course any given day you will want to aim to make a million bucks but at the end of the day when you make $50, $5 or 5 cents, it's the running average that you want to look at and use to analyze your performance.
Mike described it well, you need to pay attention to everything you do, spend, and what your making and then determine what you need to do to better your productivity.

This is a great post. Thank you for the encouragement.
I really like the pairing up idea. I'd love the chance to learn and eventually teach others how to be a big earner.

What a fine concept, I think thats the way one should go, but I think you must make it 10%, or something when high streams of income start coming in
