You’re Full Time Gig? (What would you need to make)

Since I’ve joined this site I’ve been shocked to see people making over $10K a month and still working a full time job. I know that taxes and insurance suck but at some point you have to think that your holding yourself back on what you could possibly do.
So, how much would YOU need to make in order to make this your full time gig?
For me, the magic number is $10,000 a month and then I would feel good about making the leap. Anyone else?

$7,000 I think would do it for me. If I was at that level WHILE working full time, then I could probably push it to $10,000 with the extra time I put into it after quitting. But I happen to love my full time job, so I'm not worried about that.

for some people like my self... i like to take low risks when it comes to me leaving my day job... so even with making good money i will not leave my day job untill my house is paid for... once that happens i will most likely leave my day job. thing is i love my day job so no rush to get out. but would be nice to

I can totally understand this goal and even though I'm not a big money maker yet it's something I've considered. Paying off my house first would be awesome.
But at the same time I'm not sure if I'm at greater "risk" by not leaving my job. I mean, I if I could make $10,000/month in 2-3 hours a night then how much could I make with 9 hours a day and less stress.
Does that make sense?

Does that mean you will never leave your day job or that you would never go back to work?

Yes but are you willing to take the risk? as you are less likely to lose you day job then for my way of making money go bye bye on the net...
Also do you have enough ideas and abilities to take that amount you currently make as it isn't always time that is against everyone sometimes it is ideas, or abilities... Just a thought... plus my line of work i can access the net throughout the day like i am doing now

I have a job where I can check on things too but I find it's hurting my performance. Also, I do have enough to do that I could be full time. I have tons of ideas and things I need to do with my websites that I haven't.

I made the leap making around $1,000/month.
I had lost my full time job, and had been putting off surgery on my arm. Decided to have the surgery and commit to this full time.

Interesting. Did it pay off? And did you see your earnings multiply with your time increase?

This was basically the magic number for me. I hit that and I've never looked back.

that obviousl worked out for you :O. Well by the time I start university (assuming i go) in 2 years i would like to be earning atleast £3000 a month (roughly $5000). If i can get to that figure i do not think i will ever work for someone else (apart from a saturday job during college)

I have never had a full time job and I don't think I would consider taking one.

The easy answer is when the long term benefits of being on my own out weigh the long term of a day job.
I have a long term vested interest in where I am in the day. Public company, shares, repsect, prestige, a room full of people who look up to me, benefits, regular pay cheque, the hope for a HUGE payday once the company hits the buy out button. But I also like to play on the side, make some extra coin etc. Now the side is looking better and the day job is looking less liek a sure thing.
But one needs to look longer term. What if all of your sites were banned from google/yahoo/msn tomorrow? What if they cancelled your Adsense account, what if Azoogle goes under and doesn't send you your check this month? What if? Will you still be OK for a while? Is your income diverse enough? I like that pay cheque, I like where I am in the day, I'm happy there (most of the time), it gets me out of bed...

hmm.. i'd stay working my day job unless I would make 15K+ / month (and that would have to be PROFIT, no income) .. the uncertainty of this income would scare me off to quit my day job..
image just quiting, and you make 5k adsens income and google bans you, .. or updates the SE and you are nowhere to be found.. no to scarry for me

I sell mortgages for a living :-D would love to make the same from my Sideline projects but I just don't have the time right now. Things are growing more & more every week so maybe sometime, however I'd like to try & diversify my income as much as possible before leaving the day gig so as not get caned by any G algo changes :tongue_smilie:

The number would have to be pretty big for me. The pay and benefits of my normal job are too good to just give up any time soon..
I'd have to be into the black group consistantly for sure before I could even consider it... and that is including subtracting out the single thing that makes me the most money.
