Take it for what it is worth but here is one my tips for Monetization!
1. Make your site either Very appealing or Dogg Ugly.. Here is my reasoning why..
Very Appealing... IF you site is appealing to the eye, easy to navigate and has decent content people will return and eventually try one of your offers or click an ad or something...
Dogg Ugly.... If your site is ugly even with good content people will try to leave quickly the good part here is if you are just trying to monetize a high traffic site this can be to your advantage as people may click on an ad to leave...
I don't reccomend Dogg ugly sites unless you are doing parking or something like that... (just my take others may dissagree)
As far as appealing.... I took one of my site that i was getting a decent return for free traffic (SE's etc.) i was making about 100 a day... I took the site and got a designer to give it a new look and feel similar placement of everything but gave site fresh more updated look. Before everything was boxy etc... and now i make 125 to 150 a day and that is the only change i made, similar color scheme etc... So be aware that the look of your site can and does affect your ability to monetize your site.
