paypal, depending on your forum software, you may even be able to handle user accounts.

google checkout, although they have yet to support recurring payments.
There's a few others...one popular one in the UK all the casino sites use - again, last I checked (about a year ago) they didn't support recurring billing either.

I use Worldpay's futurepay for automatic subscription billing.

worldpay.com?

How does it compare to PayPal from a merchant standpoint?

I use BluePay. They specialize in Internet Sales and offer subscriptions as well. They are the preferred Merchant Services of ModernBill.

I don't have an affiliate account, but should you decide you are interested, let me know and I will get one.

Check out authorize.net, I don't use them for recuring but I do see that option in my control panel.

There are a lot of new payment processors too, mostly Paypal clones, like alertpay.com but I personally am wary of new startups in the minefield of accepting payments.
I do use 2checkout and so far have had no problems with them, once you get things setup right that is.
I guess it will depend on how much you want to lay out as to which solution you choose. Have you considered getting your own merchant account?

I haven't looked at it yet, is it easy to integrate, do they have hosted carts? I need something simple I can get up and running with ASAP.

Here's a bit of info on Authorize.net for those interested in using it:

There are two major players in this buisness. If your volume is significant, you expect at least a few thousand $ per month in billings, you should probably consider:
linkpoint (we use them - satisfied); you can use cardservice international for setup/merchant account setup or any other company.
Authorize.Net is another big player. You would need to get your own merchant accounts with each credit card (Visa, Amex, Discover, etc).
The cost of setting all this up may be $300-$500 or so.

I hope this helps.
