I've never really used it properly but I have considered using it for my upcoming portfolio. It is a good blogging system in my opinion and you can use it for so much more!

I was using Movable Type before I switched to wordpress.Currently all my blogs are running on wordpress.They have great spam plugins (Akismet/SK II etc).

I use Wordpress for 2 niche / affiliate sites. I just took a nice clean template and put a static front page on it.

With all the plugins available it is so powerful and SEO friendly I feel that it has done better than if I had used something else. I also love the ability to pre post my articles and have them come online once a day for 90 days rather than all at once....big "G" seems to love that!

You are so right about that spam plugin, not to mention countless other cool plugins.
