I'm launching a site in a couple of days that will be targetted at tech-savvy people (i.e. programmers, web developers, etc). What is the best way to make money off this type of people? I mean, these people are very unlikely to click Google ads, so I don't know what to do. :helpsmilie:

They click them loads on my site which is similar sort of thing!

Just because they know about technical stuff doesn't mean they dont want to buy things! E.g. on my site I have some sort of technical "How-To" type articles. The ads are often things like "Training Courses" related to the content...some lucrative ads there

lots of technical people know what google ads are and how they work. If they like your content they will often clicks a few links, kind of like a 'Tip Jar'.

If it's blended nicely and relevant to what they're looking for, even some of the savviest can't resist.

I agree with the above, when using adsense make your adverts blend into your site; as some technical people do tend to be kind as they know what the adverts are - and click them for you if they like the site. Kindness rules .

Yea, I do that sometimes. Have a good site, with useful content, and you shouldn't have problems.

I'd never want anyone to click on my ppc ads to do me a favor. That's likely to get you banned. Instead, I would use an ad that only pays you for performance so that you don't risk getting nailed for click fraud.

It's not fraud if genuine visitors to your site click the ads - no matter their intention. As long as you don't solicit it, there's nothing wrong with it in my book.

I often click ads on sites I like... I pick ads I find interesting and may even be interested in purchasing something from them, but the primary reason I click the ads is because I'm helping to support the site. I don't go through and click them a million times - just once or twice at the most interesting ads and that's it.

I also try to go to websites I like and hit referral links to buy things from Amazon or other sites. It helps them make a little money and I still get the product I was looking for at Amazon (or wherever).

I like the google product referrals - they give you $1 every time someone downloads firefox or picassa after clicking your link.

Yea, but almost all of these people will be using Firefox already (or some other browser they chose to use so they won't be switching). Maybe Picassa and AdSense referals though..

That's the only occasion I click an ad, it doesn't happen a lot though and not more than once per site. So nothing to worry about.
