It occurs to me that the list of options under "Monetization" is a bit limited. Most eventually at least consider offering some kind of product. Where an info product or actual physical goods. Isn't that where the real money is?

Where's Joel Comm and all the other big earners money coming from?

Making products!

For me I have given up AdSense and Affiliates and moved into creating my own products. Why not have the affiliates and AdSense publishers working for me rather than the other way around.

I just didn't see myself, even though I was making good money, working in Google's sweatshop for the rest of my "career".

A valid point, though generally creating your own product requires more start-up capital(unless it's a book or training course or something).

It's a little higher than that. The real 'big earner' potential is in making the *system* that makes products.

As much as I mess around with AdSense sites and the like, my real bread and butter comes from the products I create. I've got a couple of software products out there that have been selling consistently for 6 years, and I am always trying to create more. The real trick is in realizing that not everything will be a home run. You just have to keep cranking things out and throwing them out there, and occasionally you hit on something really profitable.

Aside from software development, I keep telling myself to write an ebook and try that out, but I never seem to get around to doing it. That's one product genre I would like to get into.

I write a lot of my own software but I also farm it out when I need to. If you have an idea for something, even if you don't know the first thing about coding, seriously go to scriptlance or a site like that and see what kind of price you can get it made for. I guarantee you'll be happy you took the step. There's a real thrill that comes from launching a new product, and you learn a lot every time you do it. I love it.

You also require to market it so people know about it. Check how Google Adsense goes around.

Lot of risk from going from something that pays you money for clicks/visitors to just you making a product and hoping for a sale.

To make good money with adsense you need a whole lot of webpages and at least a couple websites, why not combine a product with adsense and recruit affilliates to promote it. Is it allowed to have adsence on affilliate webpages ?

You have to realise, after a while if you are making decent money with adsense then stop and analyse what is happening.

People are paying for your traffic, often as affiliates to go and monetise it in a way that makes them money when you could perhaps make more directly yourself

Or

People are advertising to sell their products that perhaps you should look into or offering such products/services directly if possible.

At the end of the day your a middleman that lets google and the advertiser make money - you have the visitor and the power to take that visitor straight to the honey pot and earn more.
