What would happen if someone had a brand new empty forum and didn't advertise it. If people found it, would they post? What would they post?

of course ppl would post there, but it would be a very slow process and the number of repeated visitors would depend on the quality of answer.

That wasn't my underlying intention, this time. Just an experiment. I think I agree with Andreas, without rules or guidelines most people would be lost. I think I'll leave it open for a week so and see if anyone does anything with it.

Embarrassment my bottom. I don't think there is anything wrong in asking any questions, no matter how obvious they me seem to one or another. I also think that users that dis-obey the rules uninteionally should be PMed before someone with adminstrative position "scolds" them in public.

Well I had kick started one forum in September 2005. And i know after even marketing it people were not posting properly.

Boosting a forum nowadays takes too much effort.
