Ok, I buy a domain (let say its a ringtones one) and I put a page up that just has links (affiliate?) to ringtones. kind of like a landing page like www FreeRingtoneOffer com? I then purchase things like google ads for keywords of ringtones to generate the traffic? Am I correct?

Well your best bet is to start with organic optimization. For a keyword like ringtones, you're gonna need a ton of backlinks to get a good organic position in the SERPs.

so is that why its best to pick a small niche so that its easier to get the organic listings?
Why doesnt the google adwords work, is the turnover rate not high enough?

Yeah, it's better if you picked a niche. For AdWords, I'm thinking it's because there's a ton of people bidding for the ringtones keyword so you might perform better with something else.

Yup I second that,

Everyone's jumping into the Ringtones bandwagon because payments are mostly on a CPA basis. Am i right? You can earn money just by having your visitor fill out a form.

The Adwords market for Ringtones is highly saturated and you'll burn more money than you can probably make if you're striving for the positions 1-7 in Adwords. Unless you're an expert, adwords may not be the most effective vehicle for your marketing campaigns

Would he have a better change of converting if he targeted specific keywords rather than a broad "ringtone" one? Such as "cingular ringtones", "<music artist> ringtones".. etc.

Trying to learn some more here

I have been following shoemoney's 40,000$ experiment. Thats why I used ringtones as sample.
So to recap, I should find a tight niche (non-saturated). run ads or affiliates on it. Get it ranked high in the organic listings.
Now, if that being true, i would think the key would be also finding a niche with good affiliate or ppc ads? Am I correct?

Here are a couple of resources that may help answer your question. (I left off the http, since I can't post links yet)

This article is in this month's Revenue magazine on million dollar earner Jeremy Palmer. => quityourdayjob.com/revenue_article.pdf

I'd recommend getting a copy of Jeremy's ebook as well. For $50 bucks you get a complete course on affiliate marketing plus he provides great support in his member forum.

Here's an interview Shoemoney did with Kris Jones of Pepper Jam, where they cover starting on a small budget: media.webmasterradio.fm/episodes/audio/2006/NI071806.mp3

I hope this helps.

The count is searches on the Yahoo network last month for those terms. Optimizing for a keyword with a higher search count means that you are opening yourself to a more broad source of traffic, but can expect much more competition for a good SERP position. Niche terms generate less total traffic, but may be an easier market to corner and translate into more traffic for you in the long run than you would have gotten trying to get a good spot for a bigger kw.

Dont expect to make much money if any at all with this method. Even the niche terms are highly competitive, get lots of clicks. You will rpobbaly lose money from the very instant your keywords get approved and thousands of clicks are rendered.

Sure it may work for Shoeoney but you aren't shoemoney.

my goal is to do something to get my feet wet, make a little money (but a profit) - learn the field, reinvest my profit back into it.
I was't wowed by shoemoneys profits, but rather that he explained what he was doing in details for free.
I would look at any method that folows those ideas and guidelines.
