I imagine the situation goes something like this - someone at a school or a college or an office somewhere cant access MySpace or Hotmail or something, they find your proxy then tell all their friends to use it too. So you end up getting a big surge in traffic from the same institution or something until their IT guys notice and block your site.

Anyone confirm that? I'm kinda thinking about setting up a proxy and doing some guerilla marketting with leaflets and stickers and stuff at local schools sama:
Your theory may be right. I can't really confirm that, but looking at my proxy's stats, I see every month a big portion of my traffic coming from the same country and visits the same sites....

You can earn a lot, but you will probably be paying a lot for the data transfer in the end.

The key to one of these sites is to make sure the bandwidth your proxy is consuming is worth the revenue you are recieving in return. In my case, I'm not even close to my bandwidth limit, so it really costs me no time or money to run it. However, if my bandwidth limit were to be threatend, I would need to have to take a serious look at whether or not the revenue from the site was worth investing more hosting in.

Good luck!
