In general, blending ads into my content works well for me. Just be careful not to be too obtrusive so you can't read the actual content.

Another good CTR booster is to place relevant pictures near your ad, that seems to draw more readers and hence more clicks to my ads. A good format for this via adsense is the leaderboard 728X90, with pictures above it. I place it at the top of my content and it works well.

If you look at the adsense help pages, there is a heat map that gives some advice on where to place your ads. I've found this to work relatively well.

If you're not familiar with it, ProBlogger.net is a great resource for questions such as this. The guy who runs it makes his living from blogging and really knows his stuff.

square embedden into main content is most clickable palcement but i do not like it. i would say 160X600 block between content colums is my favorite
