Anyone using remote forums?

Hi All:

I know that most of you using forums are hosting them on dedicated servers.
You upload the forums yourself to your host of choice and then launch.

However, I've seen a couple of companies that will provide forum software and hosting as a package. You simply moderate remotely.

Has anyone used these services?

Thanks in advance.

(And I hope this is posted in the correct thread...I couldn't find a dedicated 'forum' category.)

I'm not sure I'm following you. Do you mean like invisionfree or that sort of thing?

I like that writing forum, nice look.

Can you walk me through that launch..the short story?

Did you buy the forum software and upload to your own server?

Thank you.

Well, first I bought a vbulletin license. Then I uploaded it to my host and installed it. Simple.

I would strongly advise against doing what you're considering. You'll never make money of it, and it'll be really hard to be successful.

If you don't already have on, purchase a hosting package. You can get one for $5 a month to start out with.

Also, forgot to say... you don't have to buy forum software. There's decent stuff out there for free such as phpbb and SMF, amoung others.

Thanks, spider.

You're right...those remote forum companies are sucker deals.

I have several websites and uploading to a server is no problem.
I was thinking there's more to it, but apparently I was over-complicating the issue.

I'll check out vBulletin as you suggest.

Thanks-

Mook

Unless you have a lot of money, I don't suggest you buy vbulletin unless you're very serious about your site. It's very good though, check out the demo.
