Alright, so here's what I've decided for my next venture. I've got my niche (graphic / web design), so I'm going to make a design blog / site. I will have resources, articles, tutorials, galleries, etc. etc.
Monetization will be made with either adbrite or Text Link Ads. How do you best suggest driving quality traffic to my site? I've got content down and all that, but traffic is where I need help. I know I can get some help from tutorial databases (Good Tuts, P2L, etc) But how else do you suggest growing my blog/site? I remember reading about a blog carneval a while back, but I forget about it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One of the biggest things you can do is leave comments on other people's blogs. Or, you can comment on their posts and leave a trackback. All of these things will spur traffic your way.

Another great way to drive traffic is by word of mouth. Tell everyone you know, and they'll tell people they know, etc.

Also, joining a network of other designers can bring you some visits. Find that blog carnival, it'll be a boon for you!

If your stuff is good, people will hang around.

Getting links from big sites like Digg, Reddit, Lifehacker etc...is the key for higher traffic rates. If your tutorial is unique and simplfied enough, it can drive you well over 2,000 visits. I've seen projects like the "userbar tutorial" that drove their owners more than 25,000 hits.

You might also want to submit some of your articles to a place like ezinearticles.com where you can get some more exposure.

Go to small graphic design forums and post your tutorials there to build up interest around your website. Help the little guys and they will help you :taz:

Hope that makes sense?
