As others have said it - Volume.
MySpace - no matter how distasteful you think it is - is the largest easily targetable market segment.

I mean you are basically taking advantage of other people to get them to your site. I am talking about the kids who want to make a quick buck off myspace by using programs adding random people.
Myspace was built to find people in your area and to meet new people. By going through and adding any tom dick and harry you are not going by the ethics of the site, hence it being unethical

How is using programs to add random people unethical?
For any of you who jumped on Myspace at it's inception, and have stuck with it, you probably have a friends list into the thousands.
So how are these real friends any less random then something you would get from Adderbot? You can't tell me you would really have something in common with those ~5000 myspace users, or if you even talked to one eighth of them in the last six months. In fact, you probably accepted the invite from that last girl without even reading her profile.
Myspace isn't built on a code of ethics, it's built on spam. Bulletins, messages, IMs, they're all essentially spam. You can't remove the bad spam without destroying the very fabric that makes myspace so popular.

Yes, myspace as a site is a disgrace! but using myspace as a marketing tool is #1!
illusion, I thought you would know better than to compare working your *** off to earning a ****load of cash is a few hours! if anyone here would prefer to sit coding/designing for a few hours than earn a ****load of cash in a few hours then they need to re-evaluate their time management skills!

There are tons of myspace keywords that get a lot of traffic with no competition, that's why it's so easy to make money off of it with little effort, and hence why it's so popular.

How is it any different than placing an ad on any other site?

If you read the myspace logo it says 'A place for friends' not 'a place for spam' or 'a place for commercial solicitations'
Most of the people that spam myspace rarely make substancial money. Friend adders dont work as well as before, frequent Myspace code modifications, etc have made it more difficult for people joining the myspace spam game to make much money. You need TONS of friends to make money with the bulletin system and sending messages can get your account banned and possibly sued. Posting comments is more time consuming as well. Myspace is working VERY HARD to crack down on the spamming software and may eventually succeed.

May, but right now its simply a spamground
Its gone past what its intended, well, some teens still use it to meet fake girls with pornstar profile pics, and webmasters (some) spam it to hell with bulletins advertising whatever.
It works, so might as well give it a shot while its here...

myspace is just like forums and blogs and everything else. For now they are interesting but sometime down the line something new will appear and everyone will go made for it. Im not saying that myspace will shut down but something else will take a fair chunk of its users and make another spamming ground on another crappy domain like bebo.com or something!

myspace exists so we can make money from it.
You think News Corporation would lose sleep if they could make money spamming you?
We are the little guys and these are people who own senators, mp's, influence government. Don't defend News Corporation, they are the enemy. Just a bunch of suits.
They want you to play by their rules. It's open warfare out there and you gotta make a crust.
Is it any difference when Blockbuster, Pizza Hut, T Mobile stuff a load of crap through my letter box. No.
These are the people who publish crap like The Sun, gimme a break.
After News Corp bought myspace it lost all it's coolness and credibility for me. It's a big fat juicey cow ready to be sliced up and stuck on the barbecue.
Anyone want a steak?

What's stupid is NOT using it. Not the other way around.
Use it, make that money, and at the same time use that money to build and market sites with real value and content.
It's simple business 101, not rocket science.
