I currently have a website that is lowering on the Alexa Ranking every few days it seems. Why that is, I am not sure. The traffic on my website hasn't had any particular increase that explains this change.

I don't find it important either, but it's interesting to follow. Especially if it seems incorrect.

I hear if you're website is below 100,000 in terms of their ranking that it's pretty accurate in terms of determining how popular your site is compared to all the other sites under 100K.

i have a few sites 30,000 and under... it is important for applying to certain ad publishing companies and when you sell your site

but it also depends on the type of sites you run... some sites don't get much traffic at all and are still worth fortunes... bottom line: alexa ranking is a fair (and only fair) predictor of traffic

Mine went from 4,000,000 to 555,000 - hopefully that will change. I do think it's importnat for some reason.

Meh, Alexa ranking can get stuffed. I don't really like Alexa same reason as Hoang, but heh I don't mind, I would rather go off unique visitors instead

The Alexa rank doesn't really bother me, same as the Google page rank. All that matters to me is the visitors to my site.

Alexa only gets data from a few hundred thousand people so it doesn't really show anything; I would take it more seriously if it was millions of people using the Alexa toolbar, therefore a better view of results.

It's exciting for me to see the Alexa get better, but I agree that it really doesn't amount to much of anything.

What's really exciting is when I see my click throughs get better, and for higher-paying keywords!

Exactly, as long as the money is flowing in and you'are getting a good stream of traffic no ranking really matters.

Supposedly search engines refer to the alexa ranking when adding (or not) new sites to their index. Seemed to work ok for me to view a new site of mine a few times with the alexa toolbar installed - got into fairly decent google positions within about 10-14 days....so much for the sandbox!

But anyway - who cares about alexa or pr? People seem to be getting obsessed with things like this as well as SEOing a site to death, and not about the actaul visitors!

I don't trust the results, you can download the toolbar and set your homepage to your site and it will be in the top 100,000 in no time. To easy to manipulate ..

I honestly do not care about Alexas' Ranking.

There is no real 100% detailed information.

Most of it isn't recorded properly.

I don't think it's important... it just gages where you are with the rest of the millions of sites on the net. Kind of neat to look at though.
