"Big Update"
I just wanted to take a second and tell you all that I absolutely LOVE this forum. Although this is true, because of a recent family emergency, I have not had the time to work on the Partners Competition. I have some big projcts that I have to take care of and a couple of other outstanding problems with a couple projects. Now, I know that I volunteered to run this however, I simiply don't have the time. I have been very excited with the level of interest in this compeition and I have been VERY active via PM and email. I have talked to Lee about this, and it is alright with him. Here is what will happen.
1) We will still have the contest
2) Lee will designate a contest runner, or do it himself.
3) All those who have PMed me their information, will have their info sent directly to Lee (so no need to resubmit)
4) Anyone who is interested in helping (there have been many) should PM Lee specifically telling him that you are interested in working on the partners compeition.
5) All NEW entries to the contest should be sent DIRECTLY TO LEE via PM.
I really hope everyone undrestands this. I will still be very active on the forums, but as you can see from my user icon, I am a big earner and as a result, I have a lot of things to keep up to date ( i update them mostly myself) and moderate.
I have talked to Lee, and if there is a version 2 or version 3 of this contest, I might end up running it in the future, but with my current schedule, it is not feasible that I run this contest. I am a perfectionist, and I would want to put my BEST effort into making the contest the best it could possibly be. I can not do that if I don't have any time. Lee knows this about me and thinks it's a good idea that someone with a lot of time on their hands really put together a nice user-generated contest.
Thank you very much,
With much respect,
Matthew

Alright. After much thinking and discussing with others, here is the game plan (no pun intended). If you plan on participating in the competition, you will need to PM me with your name, some of your talents, and most importantly your estimated average MONTHLY income! These three things are very important as they will determine who your partner is. All the information needs to be in by Midnight August 12, 2006. I will then take a couple of days to pair people up and then launch the competition. The contest will last for 90 days, ending right before December. That way, if Lee wants to do anything for Christmas (promotions) then he is free to do so. Each set of partners will only be allowed to use $250. The partners will be required to keep a log in some format of everything they do. They can make their own blog, or do anything they wish, however, all contest updates will remain on these forums.
As far as prizes, Lee and I still have yet to decide what we will have for prizes, but I will be throwing in some goodies from my own pocket, and we might be able to get some pretty neat sponsors for this contest
Now, last thing. I will be heading out of town for the next 3 days, but continue to be active here, PM me, and get hyped for the contest! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Also, if you want to help run the contest, you can be sure to PM me as well. I have already had a couple of people PM me about that, but I will make a list of everyone who has contacted me when I get back home. Thank you very much for your patience, and I hope this contest launch is huge and we have lots of participation.

Ok, some people don't know what the competition is, so let me give a brief description.
Basically the contest will take a certain number of people (we are thinking around 2) and pair them up. It would be more fair if we took a big earner and paired them up with a smaller earner. Then, over a period of time (we are thinking maybe 90 days or so) the team would be able to create a web site of their choosing. There would be a limited budget. But at the end of the 90 days, whichever team made the most money would be declared the winners. Maybe they'd get a free tee shirt, a special user bar, or a sponsored prize. If there is an entry fee, then maybe we could combine entry fees to pay the winners... who knows. The whole purpose of this thread is to get IDEAS for the competition.

I have none at the moment, just hoping I can pair up with somebody who is earning more than me; see if we can get some ideas together and get going.

-No pre-regged domains or pre-built sites
-No physical sales, only affiliate sales or ad partners
-Perhaps a small percentage of each team's profit should go to a team-chosen charity? That's just my own spin, and would get the forum some good PR.

I agree with all of the above.
How would the contest be judged fairly? How would we know that the less experienced member was doing their share of the work? That would have to be settled somehow.

We wouldnt... but we'd have to have logs somehow of who did what work and how many hours each person spent. The more experienced person could probably do a good job in reporting what they did.

I love this idea! I would also like to see the teams compile the lessons learned from this after the competiton is over and share with the entire community.

an idea:
make a submit form on any site (here preferably but i will host if needed). Anyone who wants to join the competition signs up, and enters how much they earn per month, contact email, earners forum name. After 2 weeks, or a certain number of entries, the data is entries are sorted into amount earnt monthly. The top earner is paired with the bottom earner, 2nd with 2nd to bottom etc etc. Emails and PMs are then sent. I realise many people may not be earning anything, therefore they will need to be randomly shuffled to see who isat the bottom (as the person earning the least gets to pair up with the higher earner). Anyway give the word get this coded and uploaded (no rhyme intended)

Teams should be able to vote members off the island, so to speak, so there isn't a gaggle of non-earners just tagging along and not doing any work.

Teams? Its partners isnt it? And i dont see what the earners have to lose if the non earners arent working. As a non earner, paired up with an earner, i would put as much effort in as possible to not only make my 50% higher, but also to learn as much as possible from my counterpart. If they dont work im sure the earner really wont be too bothered to get on with his/her own projects and forget about the competition

Yes. I think the whole point of this competition is for the non earners to have a mentor who will help them along with their project and teach them things along the way.
