With so much competition, how do you sell ad space?

I'm finding the market increasingly competative, and sometimes I wonder if my online ventures are even worth my time.

I'm relying on adsense and paid ad placements for a passive income to persue other ventures, however when I check out many forums, digital point being one, I find people are offering lifetime links on a site for the same rate as I would offer for a month!

Even better sites than mine are either not getting any sales (lots of posts go without any replies) or are selling them at stupidly low rates. Sometimes I'd be better off with adsense.

So, my question to you is...how do you manage to sell ad space and make money when the market is so competative? Any hints, tips etc?

Yeah, Selling adspace is ok but I would have to agree with Worldwebuser on this.

Also the people offering lifetime links are just after money and most sites will be dead within 12months!

Also mate, dont get down! focus your next website on something like humour or kids things! clicks to sites like that are often alot easier to get but harder to make money.

Once you finally hit on a site idea that brings in massive traffic consistently, you will be forever changed. Keep thinking until you reach that idea, and the money will come.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go back to adsense. It worked for the first month, but with soo many clicks I was warned before about fraud clicks. Since I'm in the UK I need to build up $100 before releasing it, and I don't want to be at $80 then get my account terminated.
