Ok, so I put adsense on most of my sites today, as I really want to reach the $100 minimum to release the funds. I am also tired of finding advertiers each month.

At this moment (It's 3.36am and I'm in the UK) I have had 21 clicks and received a mesely $0.83! Yesterday I had 3 clicks on one particular site and earned $1.05. I hate these fluctuations. I can't get YPN as I'm in the UK, and I'm not sure that is even any better.

What are my options to monetize the sites and make them more profitable?

Note: I'm not expecting crazy results, but all together my sites rake in a minimum of 500 uniques per day...I don't think $0.83 justifies my efforts.

Your results look fine to me. Your eCPM is higher than mine. You could try to integrate your ads better to yield more clickthroughs....but if you think that 1.64$/1k Visitors doesn't justify your effort, you might be in the wrong business? Don't get me wrong, it's not easy to earn, but 500 uniques / day is not much. It's a start....

But maybe it's just a rant against adsene. I can understand that completely. Jus try not to rely on adsense income allone. Try selling products via affiliate links. Sell t extlinks on your high PR sites. Diversify.

Get more traffic and sell "value added" content via ebooks.

I went to some of the links I found through your blog (which I believe are your other sites). It looks like you could easily increase by 2-10x with better integration of your AdSense (at least on the sampling of sites I viewed). Your horizonal link units look good, though the vertical link units I saw were not as well integrated as they could be (for better integration you'll have to make some of your own adjacent links have a similar vibe to the link unit). Also, you seem to be using a lot of 468x60 banners which are also marked off as "Sponsors". Try tastefully integrated leaderboards, skyscrapers, or the big rectangles. Don't mark them as Sponsors or Advertiser unless you test and find out that it somehow increases CTR - otherwise don't do that. As Aaron Wall (seobook) says.... "Good advertisements do not look like ads".

Personally I've had a lot of success with the images-next-to-adsense technique (increased my CTR at least 2-3x).... it works for some/many people, and for some it doesn't - may be worth trying. If you choose to try that, just make sure you use generic images (and no arrows/etc), keep some space between the images and the ad block, and preferably include a border between the images and ads (recommended by Google). Send Google a sample for approval before posting it live on your site to be safe.

Anyhow, hope those few tips help out a bit. Let me know if you try anything and how it goes... I'll be happy to follow up with some more tips

Thanks for the tips folks, seems like perhaps my expectations of Adsense may have been a little too high.

I'll see what I can do, no doubt I'll probably rant here again soon!

Well, if you expected to make $100 per month with 500 unique per day, yes, you expected too much of AdSense.

As suggested, CPM might be a good way to start, I don't know of a good company (looking for one myself).

If you want, do try out optimizing your AdSense though..... I really do think you could make substantially more than you are. It's true 500 uniques/day across multiple sites isn't a ton, but if one or more of your niche's pay well, it could be more than enough - hundreds or even thousands per month. Even with 5000/uniques per day I was doing only a tiny bit better than you about a month or so ago ($200+/mo). I began taking it very seriously - testing ideas, tracking results, etc. Since then it has improved by almost 10x. I'm now working on doubling my traffic which I think I can pretty easily do with effort.... I haven't actively promoted my site in years - and thus my profits should nearly double as well (mmmmm Blue private forum....... hehe).

Don't forget to diversify your income as well. Find some good targetted CPA offers and put your weight behind them (write personal reviews, etc).
