It seems to be a mixed message sometimes. I've seen convention news, google professionals stating, google help stating and other references stating that Googles' own research shows that blending ads works best and encourages webmasters to blend to improve performance. Seems to be a grey area,,,, if I received an email from Google, I would just take their suggestions, make some changes and ask them to confirm we're all set again.
