My site has been up for three days and I haven't gotten a single click yet. I thought I'd set my goals low and aim for 30 cents a day but I can't even reach that. I've only had about 350 uniques which isn't alot but it's still enough to see that there is something wrong with my site. I've received 4 links during that time also.

Don't bother too much about profit. Just keep your process flowing. Also a bit of optimization will help. The learning curve may be long for some, the break even point far away.

Take some time to read all the books on SEO and PPC and any other internet marketing book you can get your hands on. If you don't have time to read then find & make the time. Visit SEO forums a lot and read some more. Watch the "developed websites for sale" boards on the webmaster forums even if you aren't going to buy anything. Take note of how the people there are doing things. This is also a great way to find thriving business ideas and it will tell you how to start one/run one by describing the business up for sale. Don't make any judgements until you've spent hours reading through these though. Look for the sites that are always up for sale...the dime a dozen sites and avoid starting another. Find those that are unique and doing well and selling for a lot, quickly. Think of ways you might get into that business only with a unique twist of some kind. Some of the people selling sites are making a killing online and they don't have time for all their sites...learn from them.

Finally, once you've read and read some more, then pick your best idea, your most unique idea that you feel would do very well. Focus on that idea for a long time. This requires a lot of self discipline because the internet is always showing you the latest and the greatest for you to get distracted with. Believe in what you are doing, after getting the knowledge you need, and then stick by it.

Hope that helps.

My advice is to only look at adsense on a bi weekly basis. But watch your traffic every day.

I've had days with over 1000 impressions and made less then 30 cents. I've also had days where I had 200 Impressions and made 4 bucks. The one thing I have learned is that you need a big sample to get any idea how adsense is doing.

Excellent advice Jam, thanks for posting that and validating part of what I've been doing....research, research, research has been my mantra since I started down this path.

One thing that I would like to add to this is that it makes things a bit easier if your first site's focus area is an area where you already have some expertise or experience . This makes it easier to judge the quality of competing sites and lets you get the most out of your content writers.

350 uniques over 3 days isn't bad at all.

Merge your ads and content together.

Capitalist,
I'm in a similar situation. Not at all a newbie to Web publishing, but just started a new blog with a little traffic but no other outlets for promotion.

It's difficult, because I would love to see the traffic and money pour on as soon as possible, but it just takes time.

Good luck!

It take time to build up a business, you have to be patient, you should be glad that you have reached so far just in three days. If you have a goal you will reach that goal..
